Having to pay back your loan is not slavery.
Loans come with a huge risk and interest. It has enabled us to think ahead to the future or make huge purchases, for better or worse. We don't have to live within our means when we can borrow from the future. But that isn't something to do on a whim.
It is not the fault of capitalism that you have to pay back the loan you borrowed to pay for your student education or a house. The market provides opportunities and choices... so you can shop around for the best deal you can find on the market.
When it goes bad... you only have yourself to blame because you didn't plan ahead or think it through enough. Sometimes shit does happen that is beyond that though, and it is no ones fault. Just something you have to deal with.

@lnxw48a1 I don't sub to these people either I think. But I do hear mentions of it here and there, and it is enough for me. If I had to see it every day then it would just be annoying. I certainly don't like that attitude you mentioned it represents. I don't think people should rely on e-begging for their main source of income, and there are types of people that will do this for months/years. I don't mind when people offer a service that other people want and get paid for that or if there is a really tough time... but not just because you need to pay for your lifestyle that doesn't pay for itself. Because you live beyond your means.

@thatbrickster @lain Everything is gay, and you've got to point it all out.

One time, I believe that I wore a dress and someone beeped their horn so I was never quite sure if this was aimed at me or not. So it might just be once.
The other time, I wore a suit because I went for an interview. I walked down the street... and someone in a group of youth whistled once they had passed. I was in disbelief, and joked that it was for the person next to me. Even back then, I didn't believe that I was attractive and I didn't hold myself like that. But I did feel more confident and sexy in that suit... and even tried walking womanly. But shhh. We don't talk about that.

Let boys be boys, and men be men. Cut the crap about masculinity being toxic out... there is nothing wrong with being a boy or man. There is no need to drag them down. You are not a better person for doing so.

Even though Frederic Bastiat argues that natural law is granted by god, I've always had a soft spot for what he said about the law and how it has been perverted.
"The law is the organization of the natural right of lawful defense. It is the substitution of a common force for individual forces. And this common force is to do only what the individual forces have a natural and lawful right to do: to protect persons, liberties, and properties; to maintain the right of each, and to cause justice to reign over us all."

"Have you ever wondered what it is that men want in a woman?"
Bricky: "A dick."

@clacke His account is interesting, and I do think there is something in it. I doubt the pills are going to help if the main problem isn't addressed. There aren't happy pills. Life is life. But as I said before... I want to say more but I can't find the words to say.
But someone once told me something along the lines, "You're having a normal reaction to an abnormal situation." I think that is closer than buying into this notion about lacking serotonin, especially when there are no tests done to conclude what the levels are. I also read that the pills don't work for most people, and they certainly didn't work for me.

@yukiame @mangeurdenuage @roka @lain @sarcasmkid Mandatory voting doesn't get people engaged. In fact, it would put people off it more than they are already if they aren't voting. Why don't you see that? Mandatory voting means you are forced to turn up on voting day and cast a vote of some sort. It doesn't mean you believe in it, that you are engaged and that your vote even counts. This is the easiest option... it would mean that politicians are let off from having to convince us to vote, to engage with us. They already know we will anyway so why put in the effort to get us to turn up on election day?

Talk about clever. Grass will elevate their intake of silicon, and that can help with population control in the local wildlife that graze on it. Even as wearing down mandibles.

I think it is less about a good man now, and more about the casual dating and one night stand culture. Ladies now know how to dress to attract a man for sex or money/gifts, rather than for the long-term to start a family and be stable.
