@perloid @clacke @liaizon I mostly agree. However, there are plenty of times where I think the mistake is better.

In the end, language will change even to embrace mistakes. As I age and work more and more with people from all over the world speaking many different native languages, I roll with the paunches :) and try to accept the spirit rather than letter of the thing being said. Sometimes the mistakes do matter and I have to get clarification. I will make corrections if a safe means presents.

@fitheach I had one of the hoppity hop things in the 70s. Per my recollection, they've been called many things over the year trying to sound enticing to kids and parents by cool, fun words of the day.

The general rate of change is increasing. I'll be disappointed if language doesn't keep up.

@clacke Actually, I got most of my jobs from people who knew my work. I've only had a few cold interviews. Maybe that's part of it. The most rigorous interview I've had to date was with Accenture but that was after working for years side by side with Accenture. They knew my work, too. Had 4-5 interviews in 2 days with them. Not much technical discussion and no coding in those interviews.

@clacke And I wonder if I'm out of touch. The last interview I had was in 2006. And I haven't conducted one in 4-5 years. Maybe I'm all wet. But I can't think of a single case where someone explained to me how they were going to solve a problem and the code didn't live up to expectations. However, that does sometimes happen when I explain it and they shake their head in agreement.

Just got from free games from GOG, which is kinda bullshit in that it wouldn't let me complete an order for windows games because I was running on linux.

Just did a search on "best free linux games". Seems the world thinks this must mean some form of mmo.

Sorry, but I still like offline games better.

I forgot to post about it but I really enjoyed the Restarters Tooting event from a couple of weeks back.  

I helped Ernestine with various problems she was having on both her laptop and her tablet. 

If you like helping people and fixing things, I definitely recommend finding or starting a repair group near you, it's a lot of fun!
