@klaatu Yeah. I think I'll be an IBMer before the acquisition is final. That's in Sep, right?

My department was outsourced but we were given offers to join ibm. I've mixed emotions. On the one hand I like my company. On the other hand IBM will give me access to resources I'd never have access to.
One the other hand, the future is hard to predict. Feels like less security for me but in truth jobs are never secure.

@klaatu I've just received an offer letter from a big company known by it's color.
Does this mean we'll soon be colleagues?

@clacke Well, this could be a chance to more into linux more. While I'm not young any more, it's conceivable I move from with IBM to linux at some point. In that regard it could be an opportunity to change roles. Basically my whole career has been get foot in door -> learn a different job in the company i have no 'propger' qualifications for-> transfer based on demonstrated abilities.
We'll see how it goes.

@clacke It will be traditional mainframe at least at the start. Specifically, the non linux mainframe part of my exact current job. IBM is taking over.

@clacke letter o. We'll see what the offer is. Supposed to be the same as what I have now. But we'll see.

@BingTing I'm curious of the link between cat people and anti american women, though.
Generally speaking, both are some of the best beings.

@BingTing Only skimmed it because it's time for work. I've been married 3.5 times all to great women who made one bad choice, that of marrying me.

Coworker: What's this mastodon used for?
Me: Mostly to identify cat people.

@clacke @aCuteLittleBox@fedi.lynnesbia boggles the mind. I think it's gotten to the point we're almost paying for the case of the memory only and the actually memory is free unless you are buy the highest capacity levels.
Kinda reminds of shipping from China. It still boggles my mind that I can buy a pc remote being shipped from China and pay 5 or 6 USD including shipping.

I spent WAY too long trying to install Adobe Digital Editions 4.5 on linux. I went the playonlinux route which did NOT work. Finally gave up and went with wineticks. that worked well enough for the purpose.
Definitely some display quirks but can read drmed docs well enough.
I recommend choosing win32 if you try this.

Are you sitting down? Because I'm about to blow your mind.
There's something that does all the systems. What you say? Yes, "Retroarch." I thought it was a distro for running arch v1 on new systems. Silly me.
Tune in tomorrow for more in 'Very old news old farts haven't heard."

@aCuteLittleBox I suppose it's all relative. I recently had the same feeling when I needed a 2gb sd card and couldn't find anything less than 4gb.

every time i go to buy sd or usb storage cards, i have to urge to buy a bigger size than i need because they're so cheap.
but i resist and the next time i go they're even cheaper.
moores-ish laws are powerful things.

@PresGas Then I read about how there's a gunshot alert system here but 89% of the time cops come and go within 10 minutes and no arrests are made.
Super!
Next I'll read about how someone without a gun was shot by police.
