#Glimpse is the rebranded version. It will also bring changes in other areas of the program (while staying based on GIMP as it evolves of course) https://getglimpse.app/ I wish it didn't come to this but I'm game for switching.
@sybren it's a complicated issue. Before banning trophy hunting, we should enforce poaching prevention which does orders of magnitude more damage and unfortunately the trophy hunting business is, for some species, a shield that can prevent extinction. https://youtu.be/YUA8i5S0YMU (I don't agree with everything they say but the main point stands: stopping poaching is a much bigger priority.) https://campaign.awf.org/lion-poaching/ https://www.savetherhino.org/
@mantissa The red flickering light helps making it satisfying and hypnotizing. Kind of like fire. When I watch fire (IRL), my eye muscles go at rest and I can't stop looking at it. Until I realize I have s*** to do or someone asks me "you're okay dude? you've been staring at this candle forever." Yes. It works with candles too on me. Especially when it's on a table surrounded by people I don't feel like talking to. But I digress. I like this piece. Curious to see the node tree if you can share.
@grainloom There are but few enough that I doubt you will encounter any by asking on mastodon. Given the traction Blender has had recently, Cycles is getting much more attention and it will certainly catch up in the areas where it's lacking. Are you planning to use Lux?
@Algot I don't have high hopes for the planet itself but if there is anything left for software to be made and used, the foss domination is as inevitable as the collapse of whatever ecosystems are already doomed (which is a weird comparison)
Why should you right now jump into the few remaining niche #foss alternatives to commercial software? Because the longer you wait, the less chances you will have be able to say: "Dude, I used it before it was cool." when foss rules the world. And believe me, you will want to be able say that. 😎 #floss
@gbryant I don't know, but I will search for an answer. Where do you buy your music? I use 7digital, Qobuz and Bandcamp. Do you have other recommendations ?
@gbryant Yet, when I disable DRM on a web browser, I can still listen to Tidal's music through Plex but not directly on Tidal. That's the part I don't understand.
@gbryant I saw you briefly mention Plex in your recent Firefox screw-up video and nearly blindly jumped into it when I heard the words "DRM-free". But now I'm not clear how it frees the DRMs from Tidal which uses DRM. And I can't find a another video of you talking about Plex. Is there any?
@pablovazquez There is a monkey apprentice magician who learns fast. Will the mouse share her magic wand with the monkey? Will the monkey lend over his magic disappearing grey box? Will the fast little fennec fox and his magic pencil come to help or shapeshift into some element and jump back into its tiny ball cage? Well that is for the next chapter of "the weird metaphorical story of Blender".
@ted I really don't, but not the same people are to blame. Back then it was some moviemakers. Now it's... some software developers? media? Not sure who started it.

@xuv I was aware of that while watching it but still: "Blender has a reputation for being a hobbyist tool, which makes sense because it's free." This is not just talking to a commercial soft user, it's complying to the gross misconceptions about Blender that **some** ignorant commercial soft users have. Blender has been used by professionals and studios for years already. And saying what he says is really not helping eliminate those misconceptions in general (not just for Blender).
@xuv There's literally a Suzanne head emitting particles in a turbulence field and that's it. No background, nothing else. This is the kind of thing you do on your first day trying a 3D program. Even for 2011 it's way out of place.
