@hund If you just link a video, it's good to use hooktube instead of youtube. And for watching videos there is also Minitube.

@amolinux I really like Fake Down from f-droid.

@hund Thanks. It's possible, but to be honest, it's not what I'm looking for.
I guess I can just sum it up: There is no really good desktop client for Mastodon right now....

@bobjonkman @cameron Well, I bricked my old Pentium IV notebook while trying to flash a new bios, but it did not keep me back from flashing mobile phones. :D
I guess it's also about finding a good, trustworthy tutorial (you- hooktube is surprisingly good sometimes) and as I mentioned, having a safety net in form of a backup is crucial.
And when it's scary - and indeed it is for me too -, it makes that feeling even better you see that new splash screen of the freshly flashed rom booting...

@GNUDuffer Absolutely... So much junk that are actually not needed... If a DE is highly configurable, it's very easy to put together an awesome desktop.

@GNUDuffer Yeah, it's awesome with plank, both incredibly lightweight and practical. Use Cairo Dock if you want to try something more fancy and full of bells and whistles.

Is there maybe a good Mastodon desktop client for linux?

@hund I see. A jabber.org account certainly looks good. No registration is available yet though.

@nev I always thought that cats are the best antidepressants.

@hund I don't get it. Why does it have to be jabber.org? There are dozens of other xmpp servers offering free registration (and I'd choose one that only works with encrypted messages).

@Ghosty Great! May I ask: Does it work with something like lynx? And did you get it working by charging via solar panel? Somehow I think that device is just way too cool not to have it.

@hil @Ghosty Agree! I'd rather use something like diforfree.org. But there are tons of other sites for free music. itunes - brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

@yerbestpal There are free nextcloud providers to find here: https://nextcloud.com/providers/
I had bad experiences with unixcorn. Good experiences with zaclys.

@Ghosty Hmmm, I read some privacy/security concerns regarding DDG.
I was told something like qwant, startpage, searx.me might be a better choice. In conversation from linuxrocks.online permalink -

@kelbot Well, there is surely no need for youtube as for any video on youtube you can use hooktube

@cameron What about Owncloud? It's in the Debian repos. Having said that, I read positive reviews about Seafile/Syncthing.

@Ghosty Is Nextcloud the way to go? In comparison to Owncloud, Syncthing and Seafile?
There are some free providers too, but they mostly offer only 1 GB (and dropbox 2 GB).
