@tek were they worried you'd try to... wait for it... hold up the plane?

I am excited by this. I think the relationship with the LDS church was holding Scouting BSA in the past, and now it has a chance to move forward. — https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/09/us/boy-scouts-mormon-church.html?partner=rss&emc=rss

The plundering of Americans is disturbing as always, but I like this line: "if the republic manages to be saved, we may have a porn star to thank for it." — http://prospect.org/article/trump-presidency-oligarchs-billionaires-corporations-and-porn-stars

@K_REY_C I believe that @patdavid is running his own, but I use OwnCube to host mine. I'm a horrible sysadmin.

@tinker @david_ross @mastohost yeah, but that feels like just introducing randomness. I'd really like the feed to be more useful, not just bigger.
AI is hip. Perhaps I need to train a bot on my feed and have it search out matches.

@zer0k I haven't figured that out quite yet, I think they're just giving Debian containers and then allowing you to do whatever you want. I imagine it's going to be very manual for while.

@patdavid I use my @nextcloud to share photos with my son's baseball team. I use public gallery links. I had one parent say to me: "Oh, you have the perfect photo sharing platform."

@david_ross I'm using @mastohost and I'm very happy with the service.
I think that having a small instance isn't always a great thing. The federated timeline is roughly the same as your timeline, because you drive it basically. So it can be harder to discover new sources on the Fediverse. If you already have an established base though, it might be a lot easier.

@zer0k Matthias Clasens has been doing a blog series on it: https://blogs.gnome.org/mclasen/
Looks promising. I'm probably more excited about Linux apps on ChromeOS right now though.

@fdavidcl nice visualization, you might ping @scott and the other folks at https://vis.social about these. I'm sure they'd love to encourage students doing visualizations.

@seanl that is very cool.
Seems like an interesting use on the desktop would be to include binder so that Android applications could run without binder kernel support.

@h I'm not a fan of Stallman. I think he should retire. I've done Free Software stuff. I like the GPL and CLAs too. That doesn't excuse his behavior. It has been bad for a long time.

@n8 just do it on Mastodon, the hashtags barely work out of a single instance so the chance of someone finding all the posts for a conference feed is nearly impossible.

@n8 if they don't choose you, just break your talk up into a series of questions for the other speakers.

@lufthans that's my policy on it too. But, other people seem to have different priorities. And who am I to judge while taking advantage of them?

@vickysteeves pods are easy to use that you can't kill them, and only have to water occasionally. For instance, if you travel you don't need someone to water your plants (unless it is for a long time).
They have a subscription service for the pods, but I normally just by them as I need them. I imagine if I ever get my dream farm subscription would make more sense.

While I think they're fundamentally evil, having the feature to insert tracking pixels into emails is a nice feature of Mailspring. Knowing that a message likely got to someone and read is handy.
Mind you, I still don't load images by default in my own client so I'm denying others that little pleasure.

@vickysteeves I'm a big fan of Click-and-grow because I suck at growing plants. https://www.clickandgrow.com/ (and they're on sale for Mother's Day)
Someday, after I win the lottery, I want to build a house that can hold one of their larger farms. https://www.clickandgrow.com/products/smart-farm
