@zer0k I haven't figured that out quite yet, I think they're just giving Debian containers and then allowing you to do whatever you want. I imagine it's going to be very manual for while.
@patdavid I use my @nextcloud to share photos with my son's baseball team. I use public gallery links. I had one parent say to me: "Oh, you have the perfect photo sharing platform."
I think that having a small instance isn't always a great thing. The federated timeline is roughly the same as your timeline, because you drive it basically. So it can be harder to discover new sources on the Fediverse. If you already have an established base though, it might be a lot easier.
@fdavidcl nice visualization, you might ping @scott and the other folks at https://vis.social about these. I'm sure they'd love to encourage students doing visualizations.
@h I'm not a fan of Stallman. I think he should retire. I've done Free Software stuff. I like the GPL and CLAs too. That doesn't excuse his behavior. It has been bad for a long time.
@n8 just do it on Mastodon, the hashtags barely work out of a single instance so the chance of someone finding all the posts for a conference feed is nearly impossible.
@vickysteeves pods are easy to use that you can't kill them, and only have to water occasionally. For instance, if you travel you don't need someone to water your plants (unless it is for a long time).
They have a subscription service for the pods, but I normally just by them as I need them. I imagine if I ever get my dream farm subscription would make more sense.
While I think they're fundamentally evil, having the feature to insert tracking pixels into emails is a nice feature of Mailspring. Knowing that a message likely got to someone and read is handy.
Mind you, I still don't load images by default in my own client so I'm denying others that little pleasure.
