    Finally got my tiled relief map server running successfully on Raspberry Pi 3. High initial RAM usage/poor performance was due to generating a zoom 0 whole world tile from high res DEM data. Solution: seed the cache using a separate machine. Making smaller tiles on the fly okay.

    I knocked a tiled relief map viewer together. Want to put it on the Internet but Raspberry Pi 3 just can't handle it. Mapproxy/Mapnik software stack does work but is very slow - probably too little RAM. Need to hunt for a VPS.

    As a STEM student I used to think history, sociology and 'media studies' were a bit of a waste of time. I now see them as extremely valuable in showing how we're being manipulated by corporations and their tame politicians and media. Not to mention fascinating in their own right.

    Actually, the threat is fairly low, and in any case, disabling remote content and rendering emails as plain text should be default email settings for anyone even remotely concerned about email privacy and security. HTML emails should be banned. (I usually regard them as spam.)
