    @kzimmermann bitmessage? Basically flood the network and try to decrypt everything that comes past in case it's for you. Not really usable for mobile, nor particularly scalable...

    For anyone really paying attention to these kinds of things, troll farms are not new. It's very likely that your friendly local administration has some, and they're part of the overall attempt to control and influence opinion for the purposes of propping up powerful institutions or companies.

    Microsoft fought a long and dirty troll war against Linux, which ultimately they lost. China has its famous 50 cent party. The US struggled to scale up its troll army and had to resort to "persona management systems". But all these are just the tip of the iceberg and propaganda wars go back a long way to the beginning of the printed word.

    1. Man 1: Great news! I read that Chrome, the world's most popular desktop web browser, is filtering out "annoying" ads.
      Man 2: That's fantastic! I hate those ads.
    2. M2: Remind me again, who is the largest digital ads company?
        M1: Google.
        M2: And who makes Chrome?
        M1: Google.
        M2: And who will have the final say in which of their competitor's ads are blocked?
        M1: Google.
    3. M2: Sounds good to me! I hate annoying ads.
        M1: Yup. The article I read didn't question Google's motivations, so I can't think of any reason to be wary of Google filtering content with their products.
    4. M2: Will you send me that article?
        M1: Oh sure, I found it on Google news.
        M2: Can you forward it to my Gmail account?
        M1: I'll do it through my Android phone.

    @h They're an interesting technology but I'm trying hard to see a "killer app" for them and it might be suffering from bandwaggoning and overpromises. (Like the "first AI revolution" - overhyped then fizzled out?) There have been various noises about using them for DNS and the like, e.g. DNSChain. I keep an eye on okTurtles etc. but little concrete progress apparent. https://okturtles.com/

    Python is retarded. Brain-damaged scope rules make it hard to write closures. Compare the following. I hate you Guido, and your cult.

    def poo():
      x=42
      def moo():
         x += 1
        return x
      return moo

    m=poo()
    print m

    > UnboundLocalError: local variable 'x' referenced before assignment

    versus

    def poo():
       x=[42]
       def moo():
          x[0]+=1
          return x[0]
       return moo

    m=poo()
    print m

    > 43
