@dtluna Keep meaning to play with that. And Rust. And Julia. And Swift. -

@thatbrickster Some good ideas in there - contracts! Just playing with PyContracts now but what it can do is limited. -

Playing with PyContracts - seems a good advance but can incur a _huge_ performance hit and only seems to work on a function-by-function check-at-runtime basis - no dataflow analysis so doesn't (can't?) shove some of the checking to compile time. -

PyContracts documentation sez if you need more, consider Haskell. But Haskell doesn't have numpy and all the other shit that makes python so useful despite its many deficiencies. -

@thatbrickster Yuh, there are two kinds of languages: ones that people bitch about and ones that nobody uses. -

Me: I hate python. Stupid scope rules, lack of proper data structures/user-defined types that are not objects, two incompatible versions, dealing with multiple installed versions because different versions of same libraries not compatible etc. etc. Also me: I'm more productive these days in python than in any other language. -

@thatbrickster FYI I was in Singapore last November and the shops were full of Christmas decos and the muzak was 'let it snow' despite the temp. being 30C. So long as it can flog shit, consumerism doesn't care about being incongruous. -

@hntooter Oh, nice, the world’s largest surveillance capitalist invests in GitLab.
What was that old adage (ad-age), geddit? Oh yes, never trust a company that has venture capital.

Least Linus's being retired from Linux has thrown up interesting information regarding Linux Foundation salaries, its corporate backing (Google, Intel, Facebook, Sony, Tesla) and defense of Microsoft takeover of Github. Never a better time to switch to OpenBSD/FreeBSD. -
