@lnxw37a2 In GNU social you can specify the filetypes accepted as displayed media, disabling video/gif/etc content is probably a sensible choice. -

Watching the herd of dancing polar bears convinces me that:
(1) Browsers should offer the ability to prevent animations as well as media (audio/video) from starting. That ability should be enabled by default.
(2) Until all major browsers implement this, Pleroma should offer the ability to prevent animations as well as media (audio/video) from starting. That ability should be enabled by default. -

@lain CNN just went too far this time.
My 4 year old grandson spent two years as a train fanatic, thanks mostly to Thomas. I've spent more hours watching Thomas the Tank Engine episodes than any adult my age ever should.
Fascist? No. Showing kids that adult life is based around being productive and completing tasks? Yes, but that's a good thing for them to learn as early as possible. -

@maiyannah As much as everyone disses Samsung's UI overlay, one thing I can say is that my Galaxy S7 is usable and consistent in a way that $EMPLOYER's iPhone 5S has never been. And, yes, even after stinging & paralyzing as much Google stuff as I can, the Android device is more stable and easier to use than the iOS device, as was the Galaxy S4 that preceded it.
I do note that in the last month or so of the Galaxy S4's life, it was unstable and constantly crashing and losing contacts ... even wipe and restore didn't fix that.

Having both an android phone and an iphone, android is fucking shit in pretty much every respect except the free software aspect. Unreliable, constantly crashes, the UI is inconsistent, etc. Newer versions may be better, but I'm doubtful. -

@Skoll3 @maiyannah True, but too many people whitelist sites (such as major news sites) rather than identify street signs (which major sites use to deter users with privacy and security enhancing add-ons, VPNs, Tor). -

@maiyannah People are just going to have to learn to block JavaScript entirely, with a very small whitelist of allowed sites. That also means that JS as the (client-run) rendering front end needs to die.

God I hate sites that use those cryptominer things with the dying fury of a thousand suns. As if it isnt bad enough when normal ads make Iridium crap itself out now youre intentionally trying to make my computer crap itself so you can get .001 of some altcoin. There's a place in capitalist hell precisely for that. -

mastodon.host is using a Javascript miner.
Well I'm glad to have my own instance.

@lain Uh, I haven't seen it yet, nor read any articles about it. Can you hold the spoilers until 2017-12-26?
