Oh man, I'm crushed. Didn't even get an interview. 😩 Don't know if I'll ever get to Maine....

@teabrarian I'd love to do Arch, but I don't need 15 more things to keep up-to-date. :/

@ProfessorBitRot
Can you send me a link to some kind of guide for this? Also these machines are laptops and may be run wireless. Will it still work?

Having read Pollan's "How to Change Your Mind," am currently rewatching "The Matrix" from the point of view as Neo's story arc as a psychedelic trip. Thinking about doing the same thing w/ Flatliners as well.

@keithzg @ChrisWere Ha! :) Ok. I wish btrfs all the best and I wish that I understood it better. For my brain, ZFS just "clicks" better.
Also, just a little snark back:
"So, in general, it is impossible to give an accurate estimate of the amount of free space on any btrfs filesystem. Yes, this sucks. If you have a really good idea for how to make it simple for users to understand how much space they've got left, please do let us know..."

@keithzg @ChrisWere I've tried btrfs a few times, but it seemed much more complicated than zfs, once I started to try to work with it.

@teabrarian If ZFS on root looks too unstable, I've thought about including a second SSD with each drive and just have zfs for the home folder, but I'm hoping I won't need to go that way. So basically we'll have 15 laptops running Linux with i7s, 16GB of ram, 256 GB drives with zfs, all for under $900 each. :)

I'm favoring Kubuntu right now. I've been putting it my my laptop. This week I'm going to try this tutorial I found for ZFS on root for Ubuntu and see how it works. I'd like to be able to set up a desktop and then snapshot it. So that patrons have privacy and a clean desktop like what you get with DeepFreeze. It would also be nice to be able to replicate the snapshots across the desktops so I'll only be setting one up and then pushing that out to the others.

Hi Nathan. I think I'm going to go with Acer E-15 with i7s.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B075FLJ87G
I've budgeted to get them up to 16GB of ram as well. I've got a couple of the i5 version and they run Linux like a champ. Everything works out of the box.
I'm thinking that I'd like to go with KDE Plasma for the desktop. I can a distro that has an LTS and that I won't have a ton of updates for all the time. Also, I want good ZFS support.

I just put #kubuntu on my laptop to see how it has changed. Does it run hot? I haven't heard my fans run like this under #Arch?

@ajroach42 Don't have any personal experience but sounds like a cool project. In association with what @jeffalyanak already posted, here the PAN howto for bluez. http://bluez.sourceforge.net/contrib/HOWTO-PAN
Good luck! Love to hear how it works out.

#Briar is an unusual kind of messenger for Android devices: there are no servers, messages are stored on your phone and sent directly to your contact's phone through TOR, wi-fi or bluetooth.
It's designed for journalists, activists, people working in disaster zones and anyone interested in "off the grid" communication.
The official site is here:
The app is free, open source and available through @fdroidorg and Google Play.
