Andrew (R.S Admin) (ajroach42@retro.social)'s status on Monday, 25-Nov-2019 15:12:03 EST Andrew (R.S Admin) Can someone who wasn't a teenager when American Idiot came out give me an evaluation of the album that isn't intimately tied to ... Everything about being a teenager at the turn of the century that made the album what it is (alternately revered and reviled) to us that came of age along side it?
What does it sound like to someone who experienced actual punk music before hearing this? What does it sound like divorced from the context of the Bush years?

captain typ0 (inkslinger@coales.co)'s status on Monday, 25-Nov-2019 15:20:14 EST captain typ0 @ajroach42 I was 21 when it came out, so a little older, but I still can't give you that sort of evaluation. It's still very much "of my time."
I mostly remember thinking, when it first came out, "Hey, Green Day is good again."
But, then, I also never considered Green Day punk (I guess they were pop punk, but I came of age during the "alternative music" phase, so we called it alternative back during the Dookie and Insomniac days).

Andrew (R.S Admin) (ajroach42@retro.social)'s status on Monday, 25-Nov-2019 14:10:29 EST Andrew (R.S Admin) @estoricru Between Fuse and IFM, we actually had a pretty wide variety of new music on TV circa 2005.
I think we're poorer for these things no longer existing.

Andrew (R.S Admin) (ajroach42@retro.social)'s status on Monday, 25-Nov-2019 13:24:21 EST Andrew (R.S Admin) Alright, last week I started an 00s emo/pop punk playlist.
Today, I'm expanding that.
I'm working on music that played on Fuse circa 2007, and related material.
The soundtrack of my senior year.

I've made 6 or 7 posts about my new CD labeler and my quest to find one over the last six weeks, and each one has gotten at least 3 responses telling me to use lightscribe.
Lightscribe is not an option.

Andrew (R.S Admin) (ajroach42@retro.social)'s status on Monday, 25-Nov-2019 10:41:40 EST Andrew (R.S Admin) Everybody Loves Lightscribe.
A CD Labeler is a much less sexy, significantly more practical solution.

Andrew (R.S Admin) (ajroach42@retro.social)'s status on Monday, 25-Nov-2019 10:41:02 EST Andrew (R.S Admin) @debugninja No!
Light scribe used special disks with a photo sensitive layer on the top. Those aren't made anymore and are very expensive.
This will actually work on any disk, and just uses a heat transfer film, like a label maker + a laser printer.

(that's why I'm doing it myself and not paying someone.)

tomasino (tomasino@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Thursday, 21-Nov-2019 06:19:46 EST tomasino https://cosmic.voyage just celebrated it's first year in operation. In 365 days we had 283 user-submitted logs to the QEC Relay 001. Amazing job everyone!
I'm putting together the year one anthology now and I'm just giddy. I'm rereading everything as I go and there's some truly great stuff here.
If you haven't been reading now is a great chance to jump in.
