Yeah, it does make sense in retrospect, after all he was ready to go with a random name he just made up on the spot when he couldn't remember his, so why not outlandish political stances? -

So, my contention is that all the locations, countries and historical events have been invented, but some political terms (and musical genres but it is less important) are the same as in our world. However these words have a massive historical significance so they can't simply be used in a fictional context without a lengthy explanation of their significance in the fiction. For example, words like "communist" and "socialist" are used, including in the main protagonist dialogue options, without any previous explanation.
After having played a couple hours more, both the protagonist and myself got more information on the historical events and it felt easier to pick political answers that were closer to actual political sensibilities the protagonist could have at the stage of his remembrance. But every time I've been put on the spot before that, I have been choosing the evasive option because even I as a player wasn't sure what the more politically committed answers meant in the context of the game world.
This actually triggered a special internal monologue where the protagonist branded himself a centrist for a lack of political leaning, and I felt it was a little unfair given that the protagonist has a complete amnesia at the start of the game, so even if he had any clear political leaning before the amnesia, he wouldn't be able to have any shortly after the amnesia occurred for a lack of memories about historical events and the actual political currents.
I actually appreciate that they came up with a couple original political terms like "moralism" and "ultraliberal" because both the player and the protagonists can discover them at the same time without any real-world baggage that only the player can have. -

And of course as a native French speaker the faux-Créole used in the game is bothering me because I spent way too much time in school trying to achieve language correctness that any typo in a French word is upsetting to me now. -

Started playing Disco Elysium by British studio ZA/UM and after about 4 hours I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand I absolutely love the inner monologue with all the different aspect of one's personality and the tailored experience the initial stats value provide through successful automatic checks and the interjection they trigger. The passage of time also is an interesting mechanic.
On the other I feel like all the political topics are just for show. Several political philosophy terms are thrown around in conversations with NPCs, but they either fizzle into a vague apolitical stance or it puts the main character who, like the player, doesn't have a good grasp on the political history of the game world, on the spot to express unnuanced opinions through seemingly forced dialogues options.
What about you? Have you played or finished or abandoned Disco Elysium?

I don't think this is sustainable, I'm not sure Friendica users are aware about all the currently available settings, so adding one will not help in that regard. Besides, we're back to square one, what should be the default? Would it apply to both frontend and API? -

Thank you for your comment. On the technical side, it's trivial to implement either behavior. We are inching towards a two-buttons solution where one button will be used to block a contact, and another will be used to independently revoke a follow for compatible protocols (only ActivityPub so far). -

If they were using a specifically Friendica-compatible app, of course, but since we're piggy-backing off of the Mastodon ecosystem, I believe we have to take Mastodon behaviors into account.
Last but not least, many Friendica users (myself included) come from other platforms, whether it is Facebook, Twitter or even... Mastodon possibly. And all of these have in common the same behavior for blocking. So we just can't expect Friendica users to know exactly how blocking works in Friendica since it's different from every other social media platforms. This discrepancy is fine in the Friendica frontend where we can spell the actual behavior for users, but it is different in the Mastodon-compatible (or Twitter-compatible) apps that we can't control. -

How could they be sure the Friendica behavior would be enforced since they knowingly use an app made for Mastodon? -

I understand it has the same technical outcome to you, but it's about avoiding the surprise of immediately getting messages from a contact you just unblocked, either in your feed or as a reply to your own posts that would instantly be delivered to them again. This isn't something Mastodon-compatible app users expect, whether their account is hosted on a Friendica node or anything else. -

Yes, but they are using their Friendica account through a Mastodon-compatible app that we do not control, so we cannot show a message "your relationship will be kept even if you block" and even if we somehow could, we wouldn't be able to offer the associated "revoke follow" feature that only the block feature can achieve on Mastodon. -

It doesn't matter for the client itself, but it matters for their users since we can't communicate in the Mastodon-compatible app the Friendica-specific behavior. -

It doesn't really matter, we have no control over the messaging inside Mastodon-compatible apps, so we have to go with assumptions about Mastodon behaviors.
On the contrary in the Friendica frontend we have 100% control so we can do anything and inform users as such.
