Actually read through the ActivityPub specification today, and there's a lot more to it than I first thought. It's well written, but would take a lot of time to implement from scratch. Kudos to anyone who manages it

@Gargron hm, okay. I could drop Docker for the web, but leave pgsql and sidekiq on it. Plenty of configuration options, just need to find one that works for me

@Gargron how would one go about upgrading a Docker instance without downtime? You can do it with multiple nodes I know. But on limited hardware, what options do I have?

@Gargron hm. Okay. I know you can already do that with users, but I was thinking the whole instance could be useful too

@Gargron the main benefit I see to this is mitigating failure and downtime. It would be a good compromise to engineering an automatic update system, which would take more time

@Gargron an instance could remain online during upgrades, but it wouldn't let you post new content.
The other option could be when an instance decides to shut down. It could be put into read only mode, so users can download their data.
A user could also be put into read only mode, similar to a memorial

Would be interested in contributing too! Need to learn Ruby and find the time, though.

I think there are three key features I'd like to see in the future of Mastodon:

* Account migration
* Read only mode
* Admin notification for new releases

@Gargron 2.4.0's loading times. Am still working out some intermittent problems on 2.4.1, but I haven't reached out for help on that yet. I probably should, actually. After a little while of uptime, everything seems to slow down.
Will do some more investigation tomorrow. It is most likely my configuration
