@cwebber @Gargron @kaniini Hey do any of you have any advice on figuring out what I need to know for authenticating with other Fediverse software? I think I was referred to jsonld signatures, but also somebody said I need http signatures instead...? :/

@woozle Oh, it's pretty basic right now. Still looks mostly the same as it does on the demo site, though I've changed A LOT in the background. :/

On that note, anybody familiar with jsonld signatures/whatever it is I need to know to have proper security and authentication with other fediverse software? Any chance y'all could give me some tips, a link to a decent overview, or something like that? :/

Oh, and migration code for my existing database. So not quite that easy. Still, things are coming along... :/

Huh, okay. So theres home timelines implemented. Way easier than I thought it'd be. I guess now I just need to figure out jsonld-signatures, do some security check-ups, and start testing federation? Whee. This is really coming along. Kinda scary. :/

@rash Lol you were right, there was actually a very simple easy solution. Welp. :X

@krakob Haha hey dpn't worry about it. I'm sure you're better than I am. And I use proper version control anyway, so I can always just revert. Anyway get some sleep, and I'll look into it. :P

@mirro Unless you're stupid rich, you probably don't have to worry about that. That's not a thing people usually do. :P

@krakob Like, you load your timeline, and it just fetches the last 100 posts in it. It doesn't have to go through all posts in the database from most recent to least recent and check each of them to see if it's by a user you follow, and repeat until it's found the most recent 100. Unless thats actually the most efficient way to do things? :/

@krakob ...I'm not sure what you mean? I already have posts keep track of their poster. What I need is an efficient way of accessing this data. So that you can find the posts that should be in your home timeline quickly and easily, without digging through the entire database in a very inefficient manner.

@deadsuperhero I'm using a framework called meteor, and it's pretty married to Mongo. I think it's possible to use something else, but I'm not sure how easy it'll be. :/

@deadsuperhero I could switch to something else? I have no idea how easy or hard that would be though. I'd have to re-do a lot of my code, I think... :/

I guess I don't really need this feature just yet? I dunno. :/

I guess I could just have the user's client assemble this list on the spot whenever they want to use it? This might cause some lag sometimes though, and it seems pretty inefficient... :/

Hmm. So I want to implement home timelines in MongoDB. Any advice? I'm thinking at the moment of just having each user have a list of post ids, and adding new ones to it as their followers make new posts. That doesn't deal super well with following and unfollowing, though, as the timeline needs to be updated each time this happens. :/

@vroom @jankoekepan @Zero_Democracy Oh, it's more than that. Theres the possibility of them making their services, then getting the public versions diminished and eventually discontinued - effectively privatizing them. And I like my local libraries and do not want to see them privatized. -_-
