Such hate and ignorance is incredibly difficult to understand. Why are they going through such lengths to hurt such a small group of vulnerable people -- even those who don't live in their country?

We don't deserve this. No one does.

@dazinism Diaspora, et al are really good options. I was planning on starting my own instance, but then realised that it would be healthier for me to get off all of those sorts of platforms.

Honestly, I may leave mastodon for that reason eventually as well. I think that because it's quieter here, one is less likely to be sucked into it in the same way aa other social platforms.

@FssOfDeath I never spent much time on Facebook anyway, and felt I no longer wanted to be a part of something so gross and destructive.

@FssOfDeath You would, indeed, probably guess ny reasons correctly. 😄

#facebook has no regard for their users' security or privacy.

They also have no regard for democracy, as they happily took money from anyone -- no questions asked -- for political ads and to provide data on users. It later was confirmed that the Russians were buying those ads, and setting up many fake users and groups as well.

The platform is also a massive time-waster, encourages narcissism, and ugliness.

A waiting period to delete a social media account is ridiculous.

I've finally deactivated my #Facebook account, and I feel so much better! 🙂

I will probably delete the account completely soon, though it appears they make that difficult.
