Yesterday, it occurred to me that if a cop ever did show up here, there's nothing in the Community Standards that says they're not welcome
So I added a clause about it, just in case one comes along in the future
I don't mean that I'm gonna start investigating users or whatever
This is in case someone shows up and literally says "I'm a cop"—better to be able to say "you weren't invited in the first place" than to say "we made a new rule to exclude you"

I'm not particularly worried about people who have worked with cops before or people who have ever had dealings with them (where would you draw the line?)
The policy was worded to include people who are employees—cops / people who draw a paycheque from law enforcement
Then some dude from another instance comes and loses his shit about it, saying (among other things):
> Your instance is specifically designed to work well with the FBI.

The fediverse seems eager to soapbox about the dangers of federation with these folks, but isn't willing to follow that line of thinking to its obvious end conclusion.
If anyone who complies with FBI demands is in effect a fed, wouldn't that mean all the FBI has to do to cripple and destroy a fediverse node is to make a data request of that node?
My summary understanding of the discourse thus far:
Hackers.town is run by someone who's in the infosec profession and has had to comply with FBI information requests in the past, and I guess made a really shitty joke in reference to this fact as part of a presentation? The fediverse has taken this to mean that they're an FBI informant as a result.

This makes me :thaenkin: about a lot of things...
So, yeah. While I did never move up the infosec ladder up far enough to have to deal with law enforcement on a regular basis, I did once, in the early 2000s, hold a presentation on WiFi wardriving at an education institution of the regional police force.
It's also absolutely clear that, as an infosec professional, you cannot have reservations on getting into contact with law enforcement, as far as your job is concerned. Working in infosec is not a vigilante operation, despite unusual freedoms.

I think this may be the most astonishing thing I've ever seen in Canadian federal politics.
MEPs vote to scrap twice-yearly #clock change by #2021 | World news | The Guardian
I never understood why there was a pretence that the natural annual day/night variation could be squeezed into our rigid clock system rather than adapt to the amount of daylight available in a more fluid way depending on where you live in terms of #latitude (and #longitude).

One thing missing from this discussion: the degree to which the behaviours of children are innate. In the absence of abuse or severe neglect, the genes of the parents have more effect than their approach to parenting.

Rainbow Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta) trees, native to Southeast Asia, look like something from a fairytale. Their beautiful trunks are a result of how their bark grows.
As the trees grow, they shed flakes of bark, revealing bright green, young bark underneath. Slowly, this fresh bark ages and fades though a variety of colours – blue, purple, pink, orange, and finally a dark maroon colour. This final dark coloured bark falls away, repeating the cycle.

@snapcraftio Is Transport Tycoon related to Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon? I loved that game.
