@tellio I loved learning the word "feldgang" from this. Then I went to search more, and found both an older post of yours from 2013, and Otto Scharmer from 2003.

Where I'm staying there is a long walk through watermeadows that begins near the cathedral and walks out through the fields. It is a practice of noticing small details exactly as you describe.

This has crossed paths for me with @Downes on value: https://halfanhour.blogspot.com/2019/04/value.html

You sometimes hear me stumble over the word 'value', the way I did in a recent interview. Let me explain why. The word 'value' is widel...

When cancer showed up, I decided it made sense not to put things off, and I would take a trip with each one of my daughters in the year they turned 16. I've done the first two, and both wanted to go to Paris.

So we went, and we sat across from Notre Dame as you did, marvelling. Both have been texting me overnight, multiple exclamation points. I'm so glad they saw it.

The third one is younger. We'll go, and see what has happened, in three years.

Also guys: “Elon Musk is sending rockets on Mars, he makes electric cars, he invented tunnels, he’s such a genius, I love him.”

I'm staying in the new home that my aunt has moved into, after 30 years of being married to my uncle, and 10 years grieving his passing. We are stepping over packing boxes and placing furniture and photographs. We still refer to his things as his -- his chair, his side table. And my mother, his sister, is here in spirit too, in photographs and little things she left my aunt.

Outside the window a cherry tree is in full blossom, and it's seen more than our lives.

But I think Stephen is exactly right to be very cautious about all of our students who don't have anything like a traditional framework of loving support in their lives, or a formal culture of elder respect.

Part of the work I have done in narrative practice is to ask very carefully for people to bring into their thoughts someone who would not be surprised to see where they have come to in their life, what they have done. These are often our more silent supporters. They might not have been able to help, but they have seen us in the world and not held us back. I find that everyone has someone that comes to their mind.

"A critical reply is worth 100 favourites". Yes, that's it exactly. Having been at a place over the last week that was Twitter-intense, I noticed I became a bit twitchy at the drip drip drip of likes and mentions. To come back here is a relief. Listening, reading, thinking, appreciating.

I'm sitting on the windblown west coast of Europe looking out at Galway Bay and listening to seagulls. This time to reflect and breathe is really precious.

The thing is, astronomy research has no inherent profit in it. The work astronomers do can (and often does) eventually have a strong impact on human technology and society but, at the time the scientists are still doing it? Not really.

Astronomy research is not done for profit and frequently involves collaborations which straight up ignore national borders and political matters, focusing on acquiring knowledge and sharing it freely.

    Honestly, capitalists hate it.

Coming back after a brief time away, it is just so good to see @paralithode's beautiful words.

I'm at an event in Galway that has been discussing "the pro-social web" -- essentially, the better world. And I think this is it.

@lauraritchie, lovely to see you in person! You too @blamb

Pixelfed will be a year old in a few days.

I'm a high school dropout that has never taken any CS or computer classes.

Web development is just a hobby of mine, I work in the auto industry.

I'm so proud of this project, I never would have imagined that I could make something like this.

Thank you for helping me realize credentialism isn't so important as you think. ❤️ :pixelfed:

Native American proverbs don't exist. Which Native Americans? If you don't know, they probably didn't say it.

You can brush them out, but realistically you need to spray. Either way you then have redbacks on the move.

They’re actually quite shy and I have a live-and-let-live approach, but sometimes I think: ok fellas, this is not a resort.

It’s been a day for managing the mostly keep-to-themselves redbacks under the pot rims in the garden.

Having grown up in Europe I’m still genuinely amazed at the poisonous things in Australia.
