@Downes I think I'll think up a few pairs that mix very established styles or particularly progressive sounds - Sex Pistols, Epic Rock Ballads, Pet Shop Boys.... with the idea that people would have to understand the underlying components in order to swap them out - style, instrumentation, harmony, texture... it's a really great idea you had ;)
@Downes I may well use this as an exercise for my 'structures and politics of rock' class next Sept. (it was the one I inherited at very short notice last (this) year, and when given the choice of remove it from the curriculum options (e.g. no non-classical option) or I keep doing it - I said I'd keep on with it.
Great fun homework project :) ...could be in groups and they have to perform one aspect live. :D
For anyone interested in #photography#teaching or the travelling life of a slightly eccentric genius type... the documentary about Bill Jay that I did the music for has just been put on Youtube so everyone can see it. (yay!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wd47549knOU
@dansup is there a way to get my pixelfed account to post to this mastodon account? I know I can post to here and then my mastodon account can boost it, but can I post directly to here?
@Downes all registered - as to place and I think they were documented in some way- I know there was a move to excavate one grave under the main floor of the church (believed to be a King's daughter from 1015) but it was thought to cause too much disruption. There's Roman stuff everywhere here...
Before this church, there was a wooden monastery, and a Pagan site before, so there is bound to be untold volumes of history in that ground.
maybe we can convince a cat from somewhere in the village to just visit us sometimes. Actually having a cat would make me sneeze so much, but I love cats.
The new :pixelfed: Compose UI is huge. It will replace both the original and experimental UIs.
Some highlights: - Optimized for mobile web - Live Filter Preview - Improved album support - Optional Location Tagging - Image tools - Add License - Easier image descriptions - Preserve EXIF - Photographer Mode - HQ Mode (no resizing or optimizations) - Location, description and licence are added to the image EXIF media and thumbnails.
@sikkdays a few words, a jotting in a notebook - something to hold on to or to remind you another day - when maybe you will have time. Process happens at its pace sometimes.
What matter if the hands of time have lain Upon your body, as they have on mine, War's wasted years, the waiting and the pain, Shall be the rock on which we build again Our newer wedded love, more true, more fine.
Hears that, in war, for love have known no ease From love, shall joy and beauty gain in peace. (poem by John Phillips)
Today my son and I sang in the choir for a village wedding. Bride, nervous and beautiful, hair up beaded headband and lace dress. She was well over 70, her first wedding. She had a poem read that was written by her father, titled 'For Audrey Mary 1944' If at the end I find you still the same In faith, in love, as when you took my name For yours; if still your gentleness and charm And truth and simple kindliness remain, Then from this war we shall have had no harm. #smallstories 1/2
I woke up to the grey mist on the field. Trees mostly still bare, but smaller plants bursting despite the lack of sun. This quiet morning, I am rested. I slept. Slipped into sleep and rested for the first time in a week. -culminating with a full day of 7 different repeated music workshops simultaneously rotating across all the years in a school (my students were great) and with that done, I slept and slept and slept until I woke up
