@dredmorbius have you seen the documentary on Netflix "the great hack"? A lot of this is spelled out during the financial analysis of adspend during the campaigns.
There are stories of Tiger Woods hitting 1,000 balls at the range without a break. And of Jason Williams practicing dribbling for hours on end without ever shooting a ball.
That’s how you become an expert. That’s how you get amazing results.
Designed and evaluated by an expert Stretches you and is uncomfortable Requires your total concentration Consists of a lot of repetition
Usually, it comes down to exercising one aspect of something. If you want to get good at drawing people, don't just draw 100 people. Draw 100 eyes. 100 noses. 100 hands.
If you want to get good at putts, make 100 putts. From the same spot. Then move a little. And make 100 more putts.
What types of deliberate practice do we have in the tech industry?
ActivityPub Conf's organization has happened from extremely limited resources, but I think at this point I think it's going to be amazing. Looking at the list of people registered and talks already submitted gives me confidence that this is going to be a heck of an event.
Ya know, this BBS thing makes me want to fire up my old board (which I believe still exists in some capacity on some drive somewhere)... It, interestingly now, met the criteria for why WWIV created it's own proprietary network...
I believe the quote from FidoNet admins was "Any WWIV board should be considered a hacker/pirate board and shouldn't be allowed access to Fido). That whole deal was amusing, because it was, at the time, the only board you could get source code for, which lead to a "reputation" much like slackware linux had later (a hacker thing). I feel like Wane and Pat could have been good friends (maybe they were)...
