    @Gargron Happy Birthday to you. I love #Mastodon and thank you for leading and sustaining the development effort. A few people have joined Mastodon at my request. I bet if you reminded users to #hashtag interests in their #introductions and to use hashtagged keywords so their toots would be seen more widely, there'd be more connections, and more users, and in turn Mastodon would be more successful.

    I think I may have come up with solution to the problem of trolls using #hashtag searches to find dogpiling targets. What if there was a way of searching for any posts on the #fediverse using a certain hashtag, but users had a way to indicate that they want any posts by them to be anonymized in those search results? Is there any way to indicate this preference that would be respected by all the fediverse apps?

    Instead of enabling #hashtag #trending vs. making it hard to find tags and convos, what's the third option? How do we get the good without the bad?

    1) Make hastags 1st class citizens, like posts -- eg. being able to report, block or mute them?
    2) Instances blocking hashtags?
    3) Auto-banning users by hashtag?
    4) A downvoting system like reddit? Eg. upvote or downvote a tag to affect its trendiness?
    5) Could trending tags actually *combat* abuse?
