I legitimately wonder how further developing #postActiv is enabling persecution of minorities. As a Black person, I think the spread of #corpocentric networks in our communities is a big issue, because increasing "engagement" often means throwing extremists' messages in front of their targets, so that reactions (online fights) will ensue; and also because not every extremist is white or right-wing ... throwing everyone in one big tank spreads the sepsis everywhere. ("Septic tank" is probably a good analogy for large centralized walled-garden social sites.)
Meanwhile, smaller #socnet sites, federated together, with an easy ability for users to block problematic posters, where no site has the ability to offer much for data-miners or advertisers or police / security agencies or excessive-regulators seems to be the way to go. Maybe something like #Twister can evolve into a better alternative, but as of a few years ago, it was not there yet.
@mike_hales Interested to hear how you get on Mike - what's your channel on Hubzilla Start? #Hubzilla / #Zap are really impressive pieces of software that I haven't had the reason to use personally yet. I prefer them to Mastodon but social.coop community is here for now. If I wasn't running my own website in an Indieweb way I would probably use Zap.
@dansup Talk to #Friendica devs. If Circles are meant to approximate #GPlus Circles and #Diaspora Aspects, they (and #Hubzilla's Mike) probably have more insight than everyone else.
(english) I try to create an overview of the features of the different federated platforms and which communication protocols they are capable of. Or add another platform (with sources) that can "speak" the communication protocol that is mentioned on the sheet. Once it's finished it will be available for everybody. github.com/hoergen/besser-der-…

The precise criteria are somewhat murky, but it seems to involve hurting a Nazi's feelings. Various lame attempts have been made at creating a static list, but thanks to @[https://podupti.me](/people/5ec992ef88b6e211) we have proper software to do this.
If you're a #cuckpodmin, or just wish you were, add your pod to the list so all of the edgelord shitheels in the Federation know to steer clear of your NPC ass. If you sign up in the next 30 days, George Soros will cover all of your hosting expenses for a year*!
(* I mean, unless he already does -- which is pretty much a given, amirite?)
A somewhat older (2016) but still interesting article about the history of #Hubzilla. Also contains a biography of Mike Macgirvin the developer that started #Friendica, Hubzilla and #Osada. It's interesting to learn that Mike launched Mistpark, the predecessor of Friendica, before #Diaspora*.
@z428 there are various ways to address this. OWS doesn't let clients older than 3 months connect to their servers. A secure chat federation protocol could include refusing to connect to another server that hasn't been updated for more than 3 months. There are all sorts of systems you can use to ensure security across a federated network (ask Mike from #Hubzilla / #Osada / #Zap about it). The only main problem with XMPP is that until recently security wasn't a design goal, but now #OMEMO exists.
@LWFlouisa Mike seems to have moved on to developing #Osada and #Zap, so I'm not sure who the active maintainers of #Hubzilla are these days. Any idea @bob ?
... needs clarification that this requires starting from scratch with no followers. Proper server>server migration is an unsolved problem in #OStatus and #ActivityPub apps, and is likely to remain so for the foreseeable future (unlike #Zot app like #Hubzilla that have #NomadicIdentity)
@lightweight have you looked into hosting photos and videos using #Hubzilla? That could be a way to make them available both on the open web and in the #fediverse@daviding
@gcupc have you looked into any of the newer fediverse software that is more blog orientated? #Hubzilla for example, or newer ones like @write_as, #Plume, or #FediBlog? Do you think as more people start using these, the conversational culture of the fediverse might start having pockets that are more like UseNet/ mailing lists?
