https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splash_Kingdom_Waterpark where #sonTwo went frequently for a year or two, is right near the #San_Bernardino County museum where I've spent today. It was the last day of two Black History Month exhibits, one of (local?) Black artists, and one of items related to chattel slavery in the US and the long process of ending it. !SoCal
@rye @awg When #sonTwo went to college, we had this discussion. Despite the known pressures on photographers’ income, I encouraged his decision to study photography. I don’t regret it, even though he doesn’t make most of his income with the camera (most “professional” photographers don’t either). You may end up working in a warehouse, but that doesn’t mean that you should only be looking at truck-driving schools.
There was a diner in Northern #NJ when I was there over a decade ago that was half pink and half I think blue, with white and black accents in both sections. It was really cool looking. I don't really remember the food, but I was there with some co-workers, watching the photos that family members sent from #sonTwo's high school graduation. It was a really good experience. I always said I wanted to go back again.
Me, discussing the computer build project that has consumed much of the last few months (and a big chunk of my budget): It all started when #lazyNephew found a "gaming" laptop on #GnawLeg ( #NewEgg ) for three hundred and something dollars and asked me to buy it for him after he lost his job.
So, that and getting #sonOne, #sonTwo, and #Daddy_A all living in the same part of the country again (for the first time since 2009) describe my "accomplishments" for 2018. Well, the second one really is an accomplishment, because it took me three years to start dispersing them from our economically dying part of !SoCal (nine years to complete that), and then three years to get them to consolidate in the middle of the country.
I was planning to call my mom, #sonOne, #sonTwo, and possibly @amic tonight, but S caught me before I dialed. I doubt I'll have time for other calls tonight.
I remember when the local food distribution programs (at least the one that kept #sonTwo and me alive) handed out dried goods: rice, beans, potatoes. They also gave out bags of real onions and real garlic. It was all “cooking food”.
From what I’ve heard, the ones that are still operating give out microwave meals (high in fat and sodium).
@moonman I saw it with 6-11 year olds ( #sonTwo and his friends ), so I enjoyed it because they did. Even he noticed some weak spots, but he still enjoyed it.
At first, I thought about stopping at Pollo Tropical, but I was not impressed last time I was there (and neither was #sonTwo when he went to some of their #FL locations). Maybe it is time that #PR gets some #SoCal food places: #In-N-Out Burger, #Del_Taco, #El_Pollo_Loco
@geniusmusing #NextCloud is planned to be part of the next generation of FOS (family online services), but the whole thing will have to wait until I have *time and energy to set it up (unless I can persuade #sonOne or @amic to set up and run it).
* time and energy — I was discussing (on #Wire) the greatly reduced energy and motivation that three years plus of travel and overtime has brought with #sonTwo and #Daddy_A and @amic earlier today.
