LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} (lnxw48a1@nu.federati.net)'s status on Sunday, 17-Dec-2017 16:38:59 EST LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} During recent maintenance, I discovered that logrotate wasn't getting all the logs. About 30% of the disk was reclaimed once I fixed that and ran it a couple of times. #sysadmin -
Matthew Davidson (mjd@microblog.mjd.id.au)'s status on Sunday, 17-Dec-2017 03:58:08 EST Matthew Davidson 3-days-ago server upgrade news: Today I can not only send, but _receive_ mail as well. Did I ever mention that, on the strength of some blog posts, a recruiter once tried to solicit me to #work as a #Google engineer? In retrospect, I wish I had inflicted my 31337 #sysadmin skills upon them, such sabotage probably being the most good I could ever hope to achieve. -

Matthew Davidson (mjd@microblog.mjd.id.au)'s status on Thursday, 14-Dec-2017 22:41:09 EST Matthew Davidson Mail operational again. #Cyrus in #Debian stretch appears to expect that if a service is configured, it should be able to run it, regardless of whether it's even installed, and will terminate at the first failure. After much commenting out, we're back up. #sysadmin -
Matthew Davidson (mjd@microblog.mjd.id.au)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Dec-2017 18:24:07 EST Matthew Davidson Okay. Now does it reboot? Ah… You know what? That might be a stressful task for another day. (Worst. #Sysadmin. Ever.) -

Rysiekúr Memesson (rysiek@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 03-Dec-2017 07:01:34 EST Rysiekúr Memesson How many #InfoSec #SysAdmin #DevOps and other techie people have dedicated servers running and not being used most of the time to their full potential? I know I do.
Surely there is a way to have them connect and create a libre cloud - think of it as SETI@Home or Folding@Home, but for running services (say, docker containers or VMs).
That could create infrastructure for people who cannot afford their own servers, but would like to play with stuff.

No matter how one feels about the current occupant of the shining manor, one rogue employee should not be able to delete an account (especially a high-profile account) on his/her own. -

"apparently people are getting around Chrome and Firefox telling everyone that non-HTTPS password fields are 'not secure' by just using regular text fields. they change the font on the text field to 'text-security-disc', which is apparently a font that exists of all bullets and looks just like traditional password fields."
How about instead of investing time and effort into schemes like these, you just ROLL OUT #HTTPS FOR FSCK'S SAKE!

stavrosNipapas (stavnip@gnusocial.de)'s status on Thursday, 19-Oct-2017 11:52:25 EDT stavrosNipapas #sysAdmin Update Tickets from the Command Line.
One reason many #sysadmins dislike ticketing systems is due to the fact that updating and maintaining #tickets requires a shift in focus and a break from their regular workflow. To me, tickets are a great way to build an audit trail to show that you've completed a task, and one of the best ways to demonstrate that a task is complete is to paste in the proof of your work into comments in a ticket.
