And sure enough clearing local storage makes qvitter more responsive.

Judging by the fact that Chrome has a really difficult time even listing all my local settings from community.highlandarrow.com I'd say that perhaps Qvitter caches a wee bit too many notices by defaultl.

@bob @maiyannah Yeah, it's mostly the defacto bit. For 2FA there are some standards which are pretty broadly implemented (e.g. TOTP) but for the main credentials password is still king. Password plus TOTP tends to be sufficient for most cases though.

So I've noticed composing a reply in the Qvitter webinterface is quite slow, even on desktop (on mobile it's an exercise in patience, typing one character per second).

It looks like the culprit is removeOldestLocalStorageEntries from misc-function.js, that gets run on every keyup.

@maiyannah Why Are We Still Using Passwords?

Because Long Random Passwords Stored In A Competent Password Store[1] Are Actually Quite Secure Given A Modicum Of Opsec.

[1] I.e. something like Keepass, not a webbased store-on-someone-elses-server thingy.

@purplehippo @maiyannah I would expect a mostly infertile variation of homo sapiens to not be the evolution of the species.

@maiyannah @augustus Eh. I know there are people who's sexual organs don't fit well in either the male or female category. But that doesn't mean there are more than two biological sexes.

But I guess gender is more of a feelsy thing than "you need this plus that to generate offspring" (which is pretty well established experimentally).

Hmm, the word "functor" seems to have more different meanings across programming languages than "static" has meanings in C++.

@purplehippo @maiyannah I'm surprised cactuses haven't been denounced as tools of the patriarchy because they're fallic symbols. They're even double evil since they don't make good dildo's (unless you're really REALLY into S&M).

In related but unimportant news: Mastodon apparently has a 2.0 release out. Don't know what's in it. Don't really care except if they would drop OStatus support (and then I would cheer).

Questions about the Massive South African "Master Deeds" Data Breach Answered
      from Troy Hunt
This week, I started looking into a large database backup file which turned out to contain the personal data of a significant portion of the South African population. It's an explosive situation with potentially severe ramifications and I've been bombarded by questions about it over the last 48 hours. This

This will make setting up Apache with TLS a bit more convenient, nice. I particularly like the easy policy setting, makes safe a lot easier.
