@purplehippo @maiyannah Hey now, don't go encouraging cannibalism against certain people.

From the "whoever thought that was a good idea department" in Fortran variables starting with a letter between i and n are integers and others are reals by default (you can turn this off by doing "implicit none" in a file).
-
@maiyannah How'd they manage that?
-
@maiyannah @bob @cyberpotato "The fediverse c'est moi"
-
@maiyannah Requiring what are effectively mind docs to have a scientific background, what a crazy idea. ;P

@maiyannah Somewhat depressingly it's kinda the same here. Psychologists are those who have a university education in psychology or a HBO[1]. No legal limit on who gets to call themselves psychologist.
Psychology is however a formal study. Unfortunately it also has a reputation for being the easiest university study due to few mandatory classes (it's a lot of reading). While I'm not sure the reputation is completely deserved it is a lightweight study compared to a lot of beta studies ("beta" meaning roughly STEM, hard mathy sciences as opposed to squishy stuff like literature).
[1] HBO translates to a lower degree of university but above college education I think. The main difference is that university is focused on science while HBO is focused on practicing a profession.

Psychologists march through NY to get Trump removed.
Uh, professional ethics? You know, the bit about not making diagnoses without meaningful interaction with the person in question.
And regardless, even if Trump is a combination of all dark triad psych stuff combined (and boy does it feel like that sometimes) that does not disqualify him from office. You need to be completely bonkers to be disqualified as POTUS.
Hell, Machiavellism sounds like something most politicians have. At the very least it sounds suspiciously like Hillary Clinton's public image.

The more I read about American politics the more I think America has just two root problems: Democrats and Republicans.
-
Reading about changes in C++17 I notice the biggest impact are with the changes that move C++ closer to D. D is a hell of a lot better with regard to understandability though (as in no SFINAE, way less weird edge cases).

@maiyannah Yeah, it's sad that the term "social justice" has become so abused that it is now a negative to me even though I'm actually a socialist at heart.
Unfortunately with the slacktivist infection all socialist parties hereabouts seem to have gone full crazy. All socialist parties hereabouts are also not part of the government coalition and I don't think those two things are entirely unrelated. Politicians sure seem to be very slow to realize that modern social justice is basically a recipe for alienating most of your voters.

@bob @kris Yeah, I know. I don't doubt that @maiyannah knows it too but her cPanel setup somehow always seems to mess up cert stuff.

plateia.org is intended as the flagship instance.

IGN acquires Humble Bundle. That's ok, not even IGN can make it worse.
-
@purplehippo Well Gabe does look a bit like Larry Flint figure wise. :P
-
@purplehippo I would respect them a lot more if they'd just straight up admitted they're a porn peddler.
Cause they're kinda looking like the game store equivalent of Playboy right now: lots of titties and some non-sexual content thrown in to make them look respectable.
-
@maiyannah Prison, long please.

Factorio has a policy of not doing discounts so people won't wait for discounts and pay full price.
I have a policy of not paying full price.
I respect their stance, but they've lost a sale.

Another argument for a FOSS device in your network: blocking windows telemetry.

Interesting overview about what even the basic level contains. Wonder how long it takes for software companies to figure out that MS has A LOT of useful information about who's pirating their software. Discovery action anyone?
