Geralt is basically Gaston without the charismatic musical number.

Youtube just recommended me a scene from the Witcher 2 (I...guess cos RPG?) and thus reminded me of how awful that is, so I'm gonna post on it once more.
Basically there's a bit in which Mr Obviously Bad Because We're Not Good At Complexity And He's Racist is trying to escape. He sets a tower full of Elf Women (not kidding) on fire while trying to escape.
Iorveth, who is basically Elf Malcom X, urges you to go kill the racist dude cos in his mind, all the elf women are willing to die for the cause (He's the 'drag literally everyone like him into his conflict' type. Your other choice is side with the soldier of a backwards government, mind you)
So, save the literal burning tower full of hot women cos you're the strong manly man! who wants the goddamn power fantasy!
Or kill the racist cos the extremist tells you so and you're a very single-minded person, just...ignore all the background screams.
Anyways, assuming you save the women. You can meet up with one of them later on. She thanks you, and she doesn't have any other bearing other than being a generic merchant.
Oh wait...you can fuck her. She propositions cos you saved her life, and you're the big manly man...
man man man man man man man man man man man man man man man man man man man...
So to recap. The powerful racist man is escaping and attacks the defenseless needy women to cover that, your allied elf man tells you to kill him instead of help them, you, the main buff man, can choose to help the sexy needy women, and get rewarded for it later by plowing one of them, because of course since you saved them they'd want to fuck the handsome courageous man.
...Yknow people get super defensive when you dare to imply or directly say The Witcher is sexist...but er...come on now.

@maiyannah
Yeah, it sounds like she wasn't sure where she stood and decided Garg wasn't replying enough, so to her it was time to air the grievances publicly.
As noted, it's both detailed enough to get a general grasp, but vague enough to be a bit "umm" about either side if one actually looks at it with a critical eye.
I don't like either of them so... *shrug*

@maiyannah
That one 'community manager' of Masto woman or whatever, the one that's a bit of a prick...okay admittedly that doesn't narrow it down, Maloki, had (is having?) a public tiff with Garg (also a prick) over...I'm not all that sure because last I looked they were doing the amazing thing of posting about their grievances in enough detail to get people on side, but vague enough for it to be unsure what actually happened.
It sounds like there was some befuddle of whether she was continuining her job, if she'd be needed or paid, and Garg didn't really respond at all or something after not needing her?
Honestly all I could gleam is that it's a basic communication mishap blown out of proportion all so each side (the garg is lovely, and the garg is a dictator) could get ammo.

My fav Pillars 2 faction is the one that's basically a colonialism analogue.
Not...quite sure what this says about me as a person... :p

@halani
Hope it heals soon!
-
@halani
W-What did you actually do? You okay? ...Well aside from the blood obviously that's not 'okay' I just mean overall.
-
I have no idea who may or may not be in the right, in regards to the latest Masto stuff, because both people involved are twats.
This is a repeated problem.

@maiyannah
:3
Well...I...know..know...know know, have the super triple infinity knowledge that -you- are lovely yes
-
Did I mention that @maiyannah is lovely, cos she is, very lovely
-
Lock ups are crap, but my @maiyannah is great.
-
Mute protags still...actually speak, yknow.
Just in regards to the few opinion pieces I've occasionally seen float around about it being "mute representation"
They're just -none voiced- protags, they're not -literally mute in the game universe-

@gameragodzilla @maiyannah
As much as I like Mass Effect (well...2...) I'd actually sorta disagree with Shep.
DA2, to go back to that, you get a bunch of choices, and then what Hawke is like is more personality based.
Mass Effect is "are you bad or good" essentially.
The test really with 'morality meters' is always "if you start picking choices which allign with one, is the game flexible enough that the same person could feasibly later pick choices that allign with the other" and the answer in ME's case is...not bloody really.
-
@gameragodzilla @maiyannah
Well, I think Liz's point 'bout DA2, hence my Hawke comment. Was that DA2 does the "established character but you can still project yourself" well.
You're saying that they should have no personality, or let you create your own. Whereas Hawke, as much as DA2 gets shit on. Does both. They have a strong personality as their own indiviual, while still allowing you plenty choice on what 'your' Hawke is like.
Totally ignore me if that wasn't the point being made, I'm tired and engaging briefly in a thread I'm mostly not involved in :p

Snarky Hawke Best Hawke

"But you see...because of their deep and dark backstory...they actually felt duty bound to..."
"Does that sentence end with 'dropkick the baby'"
"Well...yeah...but..."
"Avellone, I know it's you, take off the mask and leave."
-
"But...don't you wonder...and find it interesting...the precise deep reasons -why- he dropkicked that baby?"
No, actually.
-
@maiyannah
Very much so yeah. There's so many people who find it all curious and cool to over-analyze...characters who just outright act shitty.
-
Making a character a total asshole, isn't a "morally complex" story element like many seem to believe.
A right cunt being a right cunt, is actually rather straightforward on the morality chart.
