I think... I want to learn to use LaTeX, specifically so that I can use Lilypond.
Current PLN: get a used laptop, put Linux on it.
Eventually, using Rosegarden or similar might also be good.
I haven't used anything other than MacOS or sometimes Windows for a good ten years and I do not have a lot of time to mess with stuff. Needing to install extra stuff or special libraries or whatever is a huge speedbump for me, not a fun puzzle.
Hardware/software recommendations, and boosts, welcome.
I love sharing the excitement and frustration of learning #Linux things with friends. Sometimes it's a challenge. But the thrill of success when it happens is heaps amazing.
@dirtycommo A second generation Russian made AK-47 with a 72 round mag, a new bump fire stock, a fold-in bipod, and twenty full canisters of milspec Bloc surplus full brass jacket 7.62x39?
Wikipedia and Google delude many into thinking all human knowledge has been made available to our immediate access. This is a dangerous lie. Any scholar will tell you of the vast amount of documents and artifacts completely unavailble online, or indeed impossible to easily scan or study online. And this silent wealth pales before the oral and analog culture which, in a McLuhanian dimension, can not be simply digitized and maintain integrity.
@cypnk@ElfLord@ekaitz_zarraga You sure are a sweetie, RC! And everyone ought to follow you to learn how to build your own off grid life, space ship, and off grid space ship!
@freakazoid I quite enjoyed setting my own brutaldon up. It's quite trim for bandwidth above even mobile clients, not to mention the standard mastodon web front end.
@troubleMoney@gcupc Seconded. Time zones and daylight summer time shifts are such folderol, and complicate needlessly. UTC default with manual override ensures consistency and reliability. The idea to just show time stamps is likewise top shelf.
By the way, I'm heaps enjoying 1.4. The notion to have the account name at the top is right proper. 🙆🏼♀️
