@cloud @kemonine Thanks this is much more than I thought would be available. Itโ€™s quite a era shock to go from eking out kB in a WRT to this.

Oh, do take your time; I read a bit on your site news that dev is a bit slow. I just appreciate your hard work. Iโ€™m a project fan girl / Lollipop groupie. Rooting for you!

@Shufei The best we've been able to find is Cockpit (https://cockpit-project.org/) paired with Portainer (https://github.com/portainer/portainer) for managing a lollipop via the web.

The cockpit web terminal is quite powerful (it's a full command line) and Portainer greatly simplifies Docker Container management.

We're a bit behind on the Portainer 'stuff' but overall @kemonine has had good success with both of these as a way to manage a lollipop.

@Alexis Wow, you are Frisian? You speak western Frisian? Oh, that is just such a cute little country... Iโ€™m sorry, but I just adore Friesland. Would you please tell me where someone can learn the language online best? I never found a great resource. Where do Western Frisians go to chat online? Thanks!

@Alexis I dunno about that... Mastodon people can get quite worked up if you donโ€™t CW an ever shifting but quasi-standard list of discouraged and sometimes silly topics.

@cloud Jolly good, thanks! Iโ€™m outlining a funky network remote deployment which would be easier with a debianoid; ssh should be fine but even better to have a web front end to poke at it.

@Shufei We haven't looked at some of the more recent Orange Pi's with the H6 processor. Our main tests were on their boards with the H5 and H3 processors.

We've also found at least 1Gb of RAM is a wise choice if you can. 512Mb can get quite tricky to manage pretty quickly.

We've not focused too much on GUI distributions. A previous contributor was using armbian with a UI and they noticed a bit of additional RAM use. We also don't really have any UI apps in our docs or in the queue for the future. We're mainly focused on making sure others can self-host server software and have focused more on command line types of things.

We even found a management app that'll let users open a command line from a browser.

For those like me just getting started with peertube, here's a fantastic primer. I'd call this essential reading.

@cloud Are there any recent Orange Piโ€™s with 512mb ram or better that you do not recommend?

And have you had any issues to note with Lubuntu mobile, maybe less happy running lollipop versus the Armbian version you mention on site?

    Thanks!

@deshipu @kensanata Thatโ€™s a pretty bad faith and snide read of what I wrote. Not to mention ridiculously misaimed. Iโ€™ve literally been on the ground, guy, have dear friends *burnt out* from their former idealism by shoddy mainland PRC conservation and policy greenwashing.

@kensanata You are right... And they are having some real success in the north to do that. Better a spindly ginkgo than a dust bowl storm. And a lot at grass roots level replanting, even, with minorities taking back hillside protections and peasants who love to plant trees. Yes, good to emphasize these.

Sorry I was a downer, but Iโ€™ve been burnt by such. Corruption in conservation can really dispirit... How do you reckon we can hold conservation orgs and agencies better accountable?

@kensanata The problem is a lot of this is just spin. Coverage area as a metric hides a lot of shenanigans that donโ€™t actually get us anywhere.

Old growth real forests replaced by bamboo crops for the worldโ€™s disposable chopsticks, for example. Better than plastic? Sure. But back in the day people carried their own chopsticks and bowls to eat at kiosks or ate at cafeterias. Multiply that by 1 billion. And supply is having trouble keeping up with demand. That isnโ€™t forward.
