I've just gotten my father to switch to #linux—on the condition that I provide some remote tech support for any issues that come up. I'll set up ssh access, but do y'all have any recommendations for remote desktop software for Linux?
…not about the band, but about grits. Good, stone-ground grits can be great without any butter at all! (Well, ideally they'd have cheese, but I feel that isn't in the spirit of the point. But even entirely plain, they can be pretty great if the texture is just right.)
"If client-side #JavaScript isn’t benefiting the #UserExperience, ask yourself if it’s really necessary. Maybe server-side-rendered #HTML would actually be faster. Consider limiting the use of client-side frameworks to pages that absolutely require them."
C4Labs.com has some really neat enclosures for different SBCs. Check out these cool ones for the AIY Voice Kit and Raspberry Pi. They have this badass cluster thing too that you can mount up to 7 different SBCs on/in!
^^^ potential conflict of interest alert: I've made a few small Mastodon apps (https://t5.codesections.com/https://mastodon-de-mob.codesections.com/) and might make more in the future. Although none of my apps are currently accepting donations, I do stand to gain from normalizing the idea of giving back to the Mastodon/fediverse community. I don't *think* this has biased me, but I wanted to mention it.
@fosstodon Since we we all use Mastodon (and presumably all like it!), my thought is that one of our top funding priorities should be contributing to this corner of the fediverse as a whole.
I'm thinking of Mastodon itself ( @Gargron does great work!), but also all the other #FOSS apps/projects that make this experience possible.
@tusky, #pinafore, #brutaldon, amaroq, and #toot all come to mind, and I'm sure there are others.
I'm embarrassed to admit—I've actually never used rsync. I haven't been as good with backing things up as I should be, and I've got a NextCloud instance (and git server) on my Raspberry pi, so I've never had the occasion to. But I plan to change that soon for an upcoming project where I'll want some old-school data syncing
Why is it that I have to look up the syntax for `scp` *every* time I use it? So many commands stick in my head but for some reason, that one just won't.
