@wezm Why *is* there such an overlap between rust jobs and blockchain? Other than on the job market, it doesn't seem like there's a ton of overlap between the two communities
Working on my terminal only config. No X or gui of any kind on this system. I'm cruising the fediverse, listening to music, searching the web and taking this screenshot all from the terminal. I even have a backlight keyboard shortcuts working.
@qwazix@george_ I'm actually a fan of two spaces after periods. So much so that I even use them here, where I'm limited to 500 characters.
But, if you *really* can't stand them, there are a couple of gtypist forks that have done a global find-and-replace on all of the lessons to make that exact change.
If there's someone out there who likes Mastodon and has a bit more artistic talent than I possess …
You totally ought to make a https://shields.io/ badge for Mastodon. I see their "follow me on Twitter" badges on all sorts of GitHub repos, and it'd be great to have a Mastodon badge too! And recruiting people who browse code repos seems like a nice way to build the community.
You could even use the logos in the Mastodon press kit https://joinmastodon.org/ page (at the bottom)
Yeah, agreed on all counts. Even with void, though, I *think* that they were eventually able to recover access/get everything back up and running. A setback, for sure—and one that's worth taking steps to avoid. But it doesn't seem like a death blow.
(Incidentally, my understanding is that @kev and @mike have shared all the relevant access rights for #fosstodon precisely to avoid this sort of risk tied to one person)
Great analysis. Don't take the advice of using LocalStorage to store JS files, though. If you do, you'll increase the memory cost (most browsers cache LS in-memory), the load time (most browsers load LS on page navigation), and you'll lose the benefits of parse/bytecode caching that browsers do by default (i.e. JS files don't re-parse/re-compile on subsequent page loads).
I completely non-ironically miss #Usenet, and wish it were still suited to be my primary online social network. Even the implementation was fundamentally better than either the #fediverse or #ssb.
The only thing I don't think was a good idea in retrospect was the global namespace of groups. (Of course, it lacked security and antispam features we'd expect today, but the worthwhile ones could pretty trivially be added.)
@bleakgrey what do you like so much about it? I've been struggling to get it set up/dealing with config issues related to it having an older version of postgresql, so I can't say my feelings are that warm at the moment.
But I know I've barely scratched the surface of what it can do, so I'd be interested in hearing what you love about it
@mattmcnutt if you have any interest in keyboard navigation for your browser, then I have one more to add to the list: qutebrowser. It's been my primary browser for a while now, and I'm really happy with it
Put the kids to bed, spent some quality time on the exercise bike, and now for a short video on the history of Thermodynamics before bed. Living the life.
