@kellerfuchs ooh that's nice. I saw a 10 port (Anker?) but it wasn't individually switchable. That could be a solution to the power side, although I'd have to count up how many devices I have...
1) not building a cluster - each device has a separate purpose (Pihole, OpenHab, etc). I have a basic GigE switch handy for networking already 2) not buying new devices just now - although I appreciate the recommendations there ;)
This is *just* about racking up what I've got neatly, and not using a billion phone chargers and old PSUs for power. If I get it down to 1-2 plugs I can run it via the UPS... ;)
I've just realised that all my permanent server workload in the house is done by SBCs (RasPi, ODroid, Pine64 etc).
So, I'd like to consolidate that into a rack/power setup aimed at small systems. Something that can take a variety of different boards. For power I could use a large powered hub, but built into the rack would be good if it exists.
I've been mistaken as trans by TERFs online almost every time because they cannot fathom a person who likes and stands up for trans people but doesn't have any other vested interest beyond basic human decency
Reminder, Google AMP is bad for the open web. It was bad at inception and it just gets worse. --- Ugh. Google AMP is now โimproving the performance of mobile content and advertisingโ by jamming ads *into* photos. https://twitter.com/strobist/status/1036612428468027392
People often wonder why printers are so cantankerous but frankly any device that embeds pigmented runes in the remains of long-dead trees is going to be stricken by an ancient faerie curse from the start
This blog post is a really good summary of various CLI utilities that are (arguably) a step up from #linux builtins. There are several in there that I use, along with several that I decided that were overcomplicated, and a couple I hadn't heard of and want to look into. https://remysharp.com/2018/08/23/cli-improved
@bthall@olivia slightly late to the party here, apologies... I saw those slides too (courtesy of hspter@twitter), and found them fascinating.
However, I'm not really a notebook user, so as an R user I gotta ask - is there a big win over something like a Shiny Gadget/webapp that can be packaged up, shared, and run in RStudio? Seems like that gets the interactivity without some of the headaches... But maybe I'm missing the point?
@Annalee oh where to start?! Cooking is of my top hobbies, food is amazing ;)
Potatoes are great, but for roasting it's gotta be parsnips.
This time of year, summer fruit pudding is best - berries encased in white bread soaked in the berry juice, amazing with cream - gluten free bread would work.
Autumn will be here soon and then I'll want to make seafood gumbo...
By the way, HUGE shout out for the masochistic lunatics willing to step in and moderate any forum. They are the goal keepers and referees the fans love to hate. Their job is thankless, grueling and joyless.
I don't always agree with their decisions, but it's their forum. They set the tone. If they want to run it like a Jerry Springer show or the Harvard Debate Club, that's up to them. I'm always free to move on at any time. (See "Sunk Cost Fallacy")
@matt it does. But since it's on the official whitelist *and* playing Proton games will show as a Linux sale, *and* it's in the Humble Summer Sale - I decided I couldn't wait ;)
Sooo, Into the Breach is my latest thing to try with #proton...
It's good. Really good. Crystal-sharp tactical gameplay, every move matters *as does the order of them*. Every mistake feels like it could have been avoided if only you were thinking more clearly. It's...
(Gwm has decided to go play more ITB rather than finish this toot - ED)
