@sikkdays exactly! Make something that works well and I'm far more likely to buy it that a "jack of all trades".

@rysiek files does seem to be really stable. I think that was the only thing I didn't have issues with. I particularly like the plugin where you can generate a hash right from the UI. That is a really cool feature.

@datn it was numerous. I tooted like 3 toots with specifics earlier. If you click on my original toot, you should see the replies. π

@heluecht my syno is quite old (around 5 years now) so it doesn't really have the resources to run NC on top. Plus, syno already has the features I'd use in NC natively.

@codesections unfortunately not. But I own it, so at least my data isn't going to a 3rd party.

@sn0w exactly. Make one thing, make it awesome, then expand from there. Quality over quantity. π

Below is the definition of life. Question, can software be created that conforms to this definition?
Reproduction - check. Virus' do this all the time.
Adapt to environment - check. Malware does this regularly.
Growth through metabolism - hmmmm that's the sticking point there.
Thought of the day - can a computer program be alive?

@sheogorath the system just seemed to go down every now and then, requiring a reboot. This was probably due to it being run on a Pi, but that was my experience regardless.
There are other, smaller things that frustrated me, but these were the big things that were worthy enough for for me to stop using Nextcloud. π

Calendars - just didn't sync over CalDAV. Didn't notice this until I migrated. Some appointments were there, but around 20% were missing. This is on both outlook, evolution, android and iPad. So don't think it was a device issue.
Same thing with contacts.
Photo backups never worked. I'd have to restart my phone every time I wanted my photos to upload. If I didn't, they would just fail.

@sheogorath I've only got 500 chars, so this may take numerous toots. I'll be as brief as possible...
Mail - didn't connect to multiple IMAP servers, when it did, it was spotty. The interface was nice, but the mechanism of replying is buggy (greyed out reply button, only activates when you click a certain part of the message). I found changes weren't syncing correctly to multiple servers too.

I've stopped using Nextcloud. It's a great project with great potential, but that's all it is - potential.
I feel they're trying to do too much too quickly, and the quality of their products are suffering as a result. New features, apps and tools are being added before the existing tools become what I would consider, stable.
I had lots of small issues with NC, which is why I ultimately went back to my #Synology. Like I said, I FEEL like they're doing too much.
Thoughts?

@codesections when working with large text files (usually password dumps), cat | grep usually does what I need. But I'm usually looking for specific terms within the dump.
