this quote from Bunnie Huang is, i think, probably the best justification for proactive correction of biases i've seen

@dolfsquare huh if writing to ram is too slow then maybe you should try optimizing before that step? you could spend time making it run on a gpu but maybe there's a simpler issue that makes it that slow

@dolfsquare rust's image crate (i'm sure even the gpu processing would be mildly doable in rust, looks awful in c(++))
can't you just export some pixel array, work on it, and send it back to imagemagick?
sure try something else if you just need to read/write some files, i have good memories about sfml (and a nice c++ interface, not a few c functions in a namespace) -

@dolfsquare imagemagick is garbage wholly and kept exclusively because we haven't settled on a better tool yet

@jamey @ashkitten oh i remembered my point! i've been trying not to look lost for 30 minutes :thinkhappy:
all of that could still be rust compiler features, that don't require running the whole thing in a vm, and could both optimize at compilation and with optimized and selected runtime optimizations
fuck that'd be good. and now i remember the frustration: why is everyone too busy to fix the ruby and the jvm when they could write that :(
