@cypnk the world is climate controlled? I presume you're referring to the cartoon?

@angristan You should never be close to filling up swap. Linux really doesn't like that.

@kensanata It's a 700 kB text file, but it does indeed contain a lot of different Unicode symbols.
That said, I was able to open it in my mobile browser. The format is very simple, and you should easily be able to write a parser for it.

@kensanata you should look up the Unicode documentation concerning confusables.
The full list for Unicode 11 is here: https://unicode.org/Public/security/11.0.0/confusables.txt

@hugoestr this exact thing seems to be my experience too. I was listening to English music before knowing the language, so the words have never been important.
The funny thing is that I studied German after I had learnt English, and I do pay more attention to the lyrics in German music than English. Perhaps it's because I never listened to German music before I studied that language?

@cypnk is no one looking at that and asking themselves in what kind of society this could happen?

@baldur is that really the case for your typical blockchain fan though? The ones hyping up Bitcoin clearly has an interest in getting its value to grow, but what about the people who claim that blockchain is the future of computing? Does it all come down to a hope that they'll be rich on bitcoin?

Poll question: do you listen to the lyrics of music you're listening to?
I rarely do. I can listen to a song many times and I might be able to tell you a few words of the chorus but that's pretty much it. I really prefer that as I find lyrics to be somewhat distracting.
I've heard people tell me that they can't avoid listening to lyrics. I've noted that I end up hearing them more if the lyrics are in Swedish, so perhaps it has something to do with what your native language is?

@alice @Elizafox I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people who are gainfully employers thanks to the bloated web.
I used to be one of them back when the bloated growth started, around the time before the dot bomb

@amiloradovsky @mdallastella I'm just looking at a machine with 256 GB RAM, and wondering why it has so little.

@clacke @ckeen the status net apis have support for finding all children to a post, but Mastodon doesn't implement it.
I filed a bug on that, and it got some attention initially but it's been ignored.

@shellkr @McKael this sounds like something I was trying to do in my Mastodon client.
I ended up being blocked by this unimplemented feature. Without it, it's impossible to build a tree of all the replies to a message. https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/3499

For some time, I have been part of a group that has worked on a proposal to add missing symbols from old 8-bit computers to Unicode.
In particular, this includes the Commodore 64 which had a large set of characters that was not available in Unicode.
The proposal has now been submitted. Hopefully it'll be accpted: http://www.unicode.org/L2/L2017/17435-terminals-prop.pdf
