@NicolasPetton I sometimes run into this when reading from the WOZ (German language) to my wife: instead of candidatΒ·eΒ·s they use KandidatIn (capital I in the middle of the word). But when reading, I need to say Kandidat or Kandidatin... Oh well, a small price to pay. After all, many words don't sound like what they look.
This #mastodon backup tool will save all your toots and generate a text or HTML file for you. Currently, downloading your media files is not supported. You will need to give the app read access to your account. https://github.com/kensanata/mastodon-backup
#mastodon Current state of mastodon-backup: it will log in and download all your statuses into a JSON file. https://github.com/kensanata/mastodon-backup My goal is to write a transformer that will just turn the JSON file into a HTML file. Alternatively, if you already have such a tool, please contribute? :)
The gallery for our recent trip has reched 430 photos. I guess I will be able to finish it with less than 500 photos. But who the hell will look at 500 photos from a trip they didn't go to. In my heart of hearts I know it is a waste of time but I can't help doing this.
A macro for generating macros that read values, modify them, and store the new value in place of the old one. It helps ensure things like evaluating arguments only once.
@woozle@dredmorbius You mentioned spam, security, privacy, reliability, consistency, data sharing, privacy, authentication, integrity, trustβall of this is taken care of by instant messaging except for workflow. From my work experience, I think the calendar integration is the email killer feature.
@dredmorbius@woozle It doesn't really matter. Very few of my friends send me emails. Nobody in my family sends me emails anymore. Texts, holiday greetings, pictures: no email. In my circles, we've all moved to WhatsApp and Threema. I have Signal installed but don't use it. As far as I can tell, this means that the fight for email encryption using GPG for communicating with people is over. Writing better email clients is irrelevant. De facto, we no longer care about email.
@ckeen Yeah, now I'm a bit deflated regarding that plugin writing. In theory, it should be easy as Facebook and Discord already exist and I've used them myself.
@woozle@dredmorbius I guess you could implement a reputation system based on the number of followers you have (trust you) or likes you're gettingβand all these ideas lead me to places I don't want to go. I fear reputation systems will always be gamed, abused, result in power asymmetries, be creepy in some way.
@woozle@dredmorbius I think for personal communication, text messaging has replaced email. Benefit: simpler UI, often with end-to-end encryption. Email is going to way of snail mail: used for bills and ads.
