It is now illegal in Pennsylvania to donate a book to someone incarcerated.

Instead, books must be purchased as ebooks through prison profiteer GTL or ordered through the DOC

This is an attack on gift economies and free speech/culture while expanding the surveillance capitalist, carceral state.

Nice! I'm gonna be a weirdo about this because I'm intentionally trying not to bring my personal brand here from birdsite, so I'm not using my real name, but hello #MastoWriters. I mostly write fiction about trans people, but I've written nonfiction too. Depending on how deep you are into certain subcultures, you might've heard of me. I've mostly written prose but right now I'm actually working on a screenplay for a small indie production company. Hi

      Dragons & Magic

Some people are born to advantage, privilege. Edmond was born to village idiots who put all his skill points into Luck. They knew an opportunity to win the lottery when they saw it.

Edmond doesn’t want to be a winning ticket. He dreams of becoming a great hero and scholar. Impossible goals when your Intelligence and Wisdom stats couldn’t be lower.

Is Edmond nothing but a walking rabbit’s foot? Will his parents’ dreams of easy fortune come true? It’s all just a lucky roll away.

      Origin

      Book 1

The luckier you are, the harder you fall.

      Adventure

      Book 2

The adventurer doesn’t fall far from the tree.

      Greenstar

Normally, freezing to death in deep space is pretty permanent. But Engineer Josie Stein just woke up a thousand years in the future, aboard the U.F.S. Greenstar, a recycled spaceship on a mission to stop the self-destructive aliens of the galaxy from wiping themselves out.

If that wasn’t enough, she’s immediately elected captain. The last captain’s success rate was one hundred and sixty-seven alien species extinct to zero saved, so she can’t really do any worse. But how can she deal with aliens when she can no longer understand her own species?

      Greenstar Season 1 Intro Pack

Contains the first three episodes of Season One.

      Currently out of print.

      Greenstar Complete Season 1

Contains all ten episodes of Season One.

      Seven Stones

Seven Stones, Vol 1: Alone No More

Contains the first nine episodes of Seven Stones, my weekly swords-and-sorcery serial.

Plagued by nightmares of shifting stone and ancient evil, Absolution Kobb, Reverend Militant of the Order of the Maker, journeys to the northern edge of civilisation.

From the moment he arrives in the village of Morth, he is treated with disdain and ill-trust. A disdain that turns to violence and accusations of grievous assault.

But not all the villagers wish Kobb gone. Anessa Tanton, more at home in the woods than among decent people, refuses to let her neighbours lynch someone; even if they are a religious fanatic.

Together, they are more than a match for a few prejudiced youths, but how will they defeat an evil powerful enough to reshape the land itself?

Seven Stones, Vol 2: Opening the Way

Contains episodes 10-33 of Seven Stones, my weekly swords-and-sorcery serial.

With the means to quiet his nightmares and a better idea of their source, Reverend Kobb and his companions travel further north in search of the root of the evil.

Anessa’s defeat of the monster that threatened Alcston is a solid victory, and obtaining the obscure ingredient that Haelen needs to grant Kobb sleep is more than reward enough. But the village also holds a map that shows the location of stone circle that plagues Kobb’s dreams.

Invigorated by their mutual success, the journey seems almost pleasant. But when they arrive, lethal magics bar their path. Pressing on offers only death, so Kobb must make a deal to lower the barrier; a deal that will see him face the Eaters again, and this time he must take one alive.

With each choice challenging the friendship between Kobb, Anessa, and Haelen, which of them will sacrifice their principles for the slim chance of success?

Seven Stones, Vol 3: Passing the Gates

Contains episodes 34-67 of Seven Stones, my weekly swords-and-sorcery serial.

The quest to purify the Stones brings Kobb and Anessa back to Morth, her home village; a home she fled after villagers attempted to execute Kobb. If fighting possessed strangers made her ill, how will she oppose her own people? And, even if she can, how will she leave her father a second time?

The demands of the quest have already forced both Kobb and Haelen to compromise. Now Anessa must decide how much of her innocence she is prepared to sacrifice to end evil.

Seven Stones, Vol 3: Passing the Gates

Contains episodes 68-97 of Seven Stones, my weekly swords-and-sorcery serial.

Five of the seven stones within the circle have been purified. However, the path to unravel the next stone brings Reverend Kobb and his companions face-to-face with both an old enemy and the conspiracy that stole Haelen’s daughter.

As old secrets and new possibilities are revealed, each of the heroes must face the realisation that there are no black-and-white situations; and that the question might not be how can they purify the Stones, but should they.

      Seven Stones: The Complete Series

Collects every part of the swords-and-sorcery serial.

Plagued by nightmares of shifting stone and ancient evil, Absolution Kobb, Reverend Militant of the Order of the Maker, journeys to the northern edge of civilisation. Encountering violence from both villagers and the inhuman tribes that dwell beyond the palisades, and exhausted from both his age and his visions, he is saved by two very different people: Anessa, a young villager seeking to escape a life of shopkeeping; and Haelen, an ageing healer seeking his kidnapped daughter.

At first, their aims align. However, with every step toward sealing the evil away taking them further from the simplicity of heroes opposing the darkness, they must each decide not only how far they will go but when an ally becomes a villain.

I like what @Annalee is doing with threaded writer introductions. You introduce yourself, share a bit on what you write, and tag other writers.

But it seems limited to wandering.shop, and I think it inadvertently excludes unknown writers.

Let's federate this. If you're a writer, get in on the #MastoWriters hashtag and introduce yourself. Tell us a bit about what you write. Share your website if you have one. Tag other writers that you know.

It is fun and neat, so I'm gonna borrow it here. When tagged, introduce yourself, tell us what you write, and then tag some other authors you recommend following on here (please keep it to one post).

@hypolite Not surprised. Most of these people belong in monasteries, but God is dead (sic semper tyrannis) and there are no monasteries for them to go. So they crowded women out of tech and fight tooth and nail against any attempt by women to reclaim space in tech.

Linus got away with being an abusive asshole as long as he did because our culture objectifies men by only valuing men for what they can DO.

As long as a man is USEFUL TO OTHERS, nothing else matters.

Linus could have been a rapist who stayed in shape by punting puppies, and nobody would have said anything as long as people thought Linux couldn't go on without him.

That's no longer the case, so Linus is no longer immune to criticism.

@ajroach42 I think that's going back a little too far. I'd be content if people were taught to handle computers starting with the command line. Give people a shell account on a machine running OpenBSD. Start them off with the shell and ed. Once they've mastered ed, introduce them to ex and vi. From there progress to Emacs.

Once they've mastered the command line, introduce them to the X Window System and graphical apps. Make them start with cwm, of course. :)

@electrotamitha It depends on what BSD you're talking about. FreeBSD adopted a code of conduct back in February 2018, and lots of right-wing butthurt ensued.

OpenBSD still has Theo de Raadt as founder and head maintainer, and while I'm not involved in development it's my understanding that he makes Linus Torvalds look like Fred Rogers.
