Nice! I'm gonna be a weirdo about this because I'm intentionally trying not to bring my personal brand here from birdsite, so I'm not using my real name, but hello #MastoWriters. I mostly write fiction about trans people, but I've written nonfiction too. Depending on how deep you are into certain subcultures, you might've heard of me. I've mostly written prose but right now I'm actually working on a screenplay for a small indie production company. Hi
I mostly write speculative fiction with a bit of grit and grime. However, being a creature of complexity and nuance, I also co-author humorous fiction.
I like what @Annalee is doing with threaded writer introductions. You introduce yourself, share a bit on what you write, and tag other writers.
But it seems limited to wandering.shop, and I think it inadvertently excludes unknown writers.
Let's federate this. If you're a writer, get in on the #MastoWriters hashtag and introduce yourself. Tell us a bit about what you write. Share your website if you have one. Tag other writers that you know.
Over on birdsite, my mentions are full of authors talking about their awesome work and their awesome friends, thanks to a meme where you add other writers to a thread. It is fun and neat, so I'm gonna borrow it here. When tagged, introduce yourself, tell us what you write, and then tag some other authors you recommend following on here (please keep it to one post).
Federal judge orders state & insurers to cover transgender employees' transition surgeries. The judge concluded that there's no legally valid reason to exclude medically necessary care for the workers & called the state’s arguments “unhinged from reality" https://jsonl.in/2NttuIo
@hypolite Not surprised. Most of these people belong in monasteries, but God is dead (sic semper tyrannis) and there are no monasteries for them to go. So they crowded women out of tech and fight tooth and nail against any attempt by women to reclaim space in tech.
Linus got away with being an abusive asshole as long as he did because our culture objectifies men by only valuing men for what they can DO.
As long as a man is USEFUL TO OTHERS, nothing else matters.
Linus could have been a rapist who stayed in shape by punting puppies, and nobody would have said anything as long as people thought Linux couldn't go on without him.
That's no longer the case, so Linus is no longer immune to criticism.
@ajroach42 I think that's going back a little too far. I'd be content if people were taught to handle computers starting with the command line. Give people a shell account on a machine running OpenBSD. Start them off with the shell and ed. Once they've mastered ed, introduce them to ex and vi. From there progress to Emacs.
Once they've mastered the command line, introduce them to the X Window System and graphical apps. Make them start with cwm, of course. :)
@electrotamitha It depends on what BSD you're talking about. FreeBSD adopted a code of conduct back in February 2018, and lots of right-wing butthurt ensued.
OpenBSD still has Theo de Raadt as founder and head maintainer, and while I'm not involved in development it's my understanding that he makes Linus Torvalds look like Fred Rogers.
