@Juni a thing that still works fine on insta is hashtags. so if we agree on some hashtags we can follow each other without missing anything I think.

@TQ it's turning instagram into a world of self-promotion and that's not really social any more. everyone is supposed to behave like they were making advertisements instead of just sharing stuff with each other..

@amylsacks true. and food/nutrition/dieting has become the field of so much evangelism it's not funny.

@hollyamory yes. it should be okay to ask someone to post diet content to a separate social media account where you can choose to follow or not, or to hashtag stuff so that you can filter it out, or if talking in RL, to make sure it's okay to talk about it.

I wouldn't say their decision to diet in itself has a negative impact, but I do agree that dieting culture and fatshaming does, and there is a negative effect if you do your dieting "in public". it will amplify all those toxic messages society gives us.

@maloki absolutely! if people, after getting thourough information, still want to diet, that's their thing.

@amylsacks that's very understandable! I am not immune myself, but I can resist. it takes effort.

the friend I was using as an example had moved all their weight loss/food content to a separate insta account and wasn't talking about dieting in their general account, to respect the needs of others who are discriminated against by diet culture.

I absolutely am with you when it comes to not exposing people to diet talk without their consent.
