In all seriousness, does anyone give a shit about Gib? Like the rest of our dependencies, it's a haven for tax cheats and dodgy business operations, with deliberately weak regulation of eg. gambling.

Fuck those guys, give the Rock to Spain and make it an autonomous English-speaking region of that country.

@risabee One thing that I think is misreported here is the Russian involvement in all of this. Putin is involved, I'm not disputing that.

But I don't think Putin cares a jot about hurting LGBT people, ethnic minorities and so on. His interest is purely in destabilising the bonds between nations in Europe, and embracing and funding the populist nationalist far right is simply the easiest way of doing that.

The various national fronts and right-wingers are just useful idiots for Vlad.

@risabee The Raheem Kassam mentioned in that post was involved in a recent fracas at the premises of a UK talk radio station called LBC.

He was at the radio station with Nigel Farage and was asked to leave, as per standard procedure, because he didn't have permission to be there. Major radio stations don't have randoms wandering the corridors.

He kicked off, photographed the producer asking him to leave and published his contact details on Twitter.

@kev Basically, there's only very limited need for "lightweight" stuff like LXDE and Puppy Linux when the mainstream, widely used and supported software works so well on computers 7-10 years old.

@kev The "main" distros and DEs are also getting lighter rather than heavier nowadays. I run Debian with KDE and it's noticeably lighter and faster than older versions. Apparently the latest KDE is getting even less memory-hungry.

Software used to get more bloated as time went by, these days it's becoming more efficient.

I run a 2011 laptop and no problems at all, no plans to replace it. I couldn't have done that with a 7-year-old laptop in 2011.
