@GreenandBlack I'm sick of the constant army recruitment that seems to have been going on forever.

Every time I turn on the radio there seems to be some scouser rambling away about how we're all great lads in the army, we stick together lah, always someone who'll stick their arm round ya, etc.

Is this really the best form of community and support we can offer our young working-class men? It's no wonder we're fucked.

Further to this, the usual thing you get in the UK is "we can't afford to pay for your work, because we're a chariteeeeey".

My response is - if you can't afford to pay someone to perform your essential business functions, then charity or not you're going to have to do without that person.

Those at the top of these organisations are often on big bucks, but the admin workers are the ones who get stiffed.

@charlag I don't normally eat much sweet stuff but I've really been craving it lately and eating a lot more than I normally do. Might that be why I'm passing out?

@charlag I have been really tired lately, passing out in the late-afternoon and early-evening and feeling generally really woozy, almost drunk when I wake.

I don't know if it is unseasonably hot where you live, but I am putting it down to the heat. I hope it ends soon, it's starting to make me ill.

@thamesynne The fact that these shops whack the prices of fans up in weather like this seems particularly cruel.

£15 is really expensive for a pedestal fan of the quality you'll get in Home and Bargain or whatever it's called these days.

@artsyhonker In my town they've started doing a thing where shops have water dispensers, and you can fill your bottle for free. There's a sign in the window of participating shops so you know which ones you can go into.

@thamesynne You can't even visit www.yahoo.com anymore without getting a full screen page about "the Oath Family", whatever that is.

Flickr seems to have escaped it for some reason, but Tumblr is inaccessible unless you want to opt out of hundreds of advertising trackers each visit.

These sites will just sink into obscurity. I always point it out when someone links to one.

@thamesynne I'm not sure why people persist in linking to these websites.

I keep seeing links to Forbes on here. Quite aside from why the fuck anyone would want to read Forbes in 2018, it requires you to go through at least five steps taking over 90 seconds to get to the 'article' unless you click okay. Same goes for Tumblr links.

I presume Americans don't get all the extra confirmation screens and are oblivious to the annoyance they are causing by posting such links.

@bobstechsite Microsoft giving their software to schools at a knock-down price to get themselves onto the curriculum is a bit like the (apocryphal?) tale that Adobe tolerate home piracy of Photoshop.

A user who's learned and cut their teeth on a pirate copy of Photoshop at home is more likely to then buy a multi-thousand-pound licence once they're in a professional design or graphics role. Get users used to your system and you can keep them.

@bobstechsite It has been a long game. When schools were full of BBC Micros, Microsoft saw an in. Get school kids using MS Windows and Office and they will be users for life.

So when schools upgraded to PCs, they were Windows PCs with Office. The IT curriculum was "how to use MS Office". Those kids left school, went to work, got into a buying position at work, bought Microsoft.

And so it continues today!
