@aral I often feel similar about the EFF. I may be mistaken, but I feel like more often than not, the aims of the EFF align remarkably well with the aims of Google.
@bobstechsite More than once I've heard radio presenters give out a website address as "http, colon forward-slash forward-slash, www dot example dot com forward-slash index dot html."
Not nearly as much recently, but a few years ago it was a scourge.
On the radio, the estimable Larry and Paul (@larryandpaul on birdsite).
Each week, they ask an inane question (this week it's What's Your Favourite Martin?) and get the definitive answer, so no local radio DJ can use the question ever again.
I am dead against this - what would I toot about if local radio stopped asking inane questions?
@StuC@Antanicus I use Opera browser, it's great. But I'm concerned about this new development, and also that some blockchain outfit is putting $50 million into it.
Is it likely to start mining coins in the background while I use it? :(
@mayel Makes sense, otherwise prices would go up for those of us who live in the UK to subsidise the roaming costs of those using it overseas non-stop.
@mayel The "prolonged periods which don't follow reasonable consumer holiday and travel patterns" wording is exactly what my network, Giffgaff, use. It must be some kind of standard wording.
I don't travel out of the UK a lot, but it'd be useful if they gave a clearer definition of what constitutes non-standard usage.
@mayel I didn't think they were allowed to turn off roaming altogether! Even my cheapo no-contract phone works for no extra cost in the EU.
We have annoying areas in the UK that don't come under roaming - the Isle of Man and Channel Islands have usurious fees for using their networks, because they aren't "in" the EU. If you're on the coast or a ferry, you can sometimes get stung by inadvertently connecting to eg Manx Telecom.
@mkwadee I noticed a few people unfollow me lately, so I do the same. If someone's no longer interested in me, I'm going to return the favour.
I've also noticed my timeline getting a little too quiet lately, so I want to find people who are still active on the network rather than following a bunch of ghost accounts. :)
