Has Barry Chuckle actually died this time? He's "died" about seven times in the past few years.

@charlag How do you get around the idea that someone might use your connection for something illegal and get you cut off, or worse?
Best case, they torrent and get your connection pulled. Worst case, they use your connection to download banned material (like CP) and you get a 6am door knock.

@cathal We have lots of different postal companies now - quite a lot of letters from businesses arrive with "UK Mail" on them instead of actual postmarks or franks.
There's only one post person who delivers them all, and they're from Royal Mail. I'm not sure how it works, why RM have to deliver letters sent through these other firms.

@simon_brooke It is interesting that the Conservative Party's issues with Islamophobia do not get nearly as much airtime as the anti-Semitic elements of the Labour party.

It's always been super easy for me to get to Manchester, I drive to Oldham and then take a tram. Free parking, Β£2-something tram ticket, 15 minutes to the city centre.
Now, with frequent violence on the Oldham tram line, I have to drive into the city centre which takes aeons and pay massive fees for parking.
It means I don't go - sort your trams, Manchester, you are losing business!

@artsyhonker That's a good point, people live in London, Manchester, Leeds etc not because they have a burning desire to live in such places but because that's where the jobs are. We have over-centralised in certain city centres and there's very little in other areas.
Under UBI, areas like the North East would become more desirable - it's lovely up there, but there are absolutely no jobs in places like Co Durham.

@jjg Because the site is doing dodgy things with visitor data and not compliant with GDPR. They don't want to comply with GDPR (which would require them to respond to subject data access requests etc) so they simply block all EU visitors.

@jjg We have been getting 451 errors in Europe since GDPR came in - a few US sites throw them when you try and visit from a European IP.

@porsupah I'm not a fan. The programme could be more informative if they didn't have the obsession with going "live" to various burrows and nests.
"Let's go live to a bird's nest - oh, the birds aren't doing anything, here's some footage of them feeding earlier."
I'd prefer it if they just set up shop on wildlife reserves around the country and filmed through the day, bringing the 'best bits' to viewers in the evening.

@artsyhonker Under UBI, the concern is that most landlords would simply raise rents to take into account the fact that people are now getting UBI.
If your house was Β£400 a month, suddenly under UBI it'd be Β£650. The basic income would just trickle upwards to property owners, as our incomes do already.

@porsupah Radio Bingo is actually a thing in Ireland. You buy a book of bingo tickets from a local shop and they read out that day's numbers on air
