@Gargron Sure it is! In the ways that it is used at a company, it checks many of the boxes.
Just because it's a chat interface doesn't mean that it isn't a social network.

@Gargron Slack.
@lain Trap Manga is Playboy for the 21st Century.
if you want to use libre software, just do it YOU are the only impediment
@plsburydoughboy @dvddpl Sony's attempts at mobile devices have always felt tragically half-baked.
As much as I loved my PSP when it came out, it didn't have the horsepower or the games to really justify its own existence. I worry that the Vita is probably more of the same.
@Gargron Now I'm pining for an upgrade for the instance that I run on.
@cwebber And also one of my favorite people!
Oh yeah, re- #introductions
I'm Christopher Allan Webber. I work on federation and decentralized web standards. In particular I'm co-editor of ActivityPub, a federation standard that Mastodon and a few other projects use. I'm a free software/culture advocate; at one point I was tech lead at Creative Commons but now I'm independent. I also co-founded MediaGoblin and these days I work on Guile/Guix/8sync. Expect obscure tech history, Lisp nerd-outs, leftie uspol stuff, and low self esteem.
@lnxw48a1 I'm on the fence about returning it; originally I bought it for a sight-gag on the company blog.
It was really fun to ride around in my room last night, and I sort of just assumed it would be as easy to ride on the street.
Like, it's really easy to ride indoors, but I keep falling off in the bike lane.
tl;dr, riding a hoverboard to work is way more difficult than I thought it would be. Maybe I should've just gotten a bike.

Go on...
@kai I mean, that was a very short list. You never know!
@frankiesaxx Probably moreso than people who work in metro stations.
Yeah, these aren't ordered in any particular way, they're just films that I really liked. If I didn't set a cap, I'm sure it could easily be 100 entries long.
@frankiesaxx Immediate sadness.
I have mixed feelings on it. I think the convenience factor of Slack is extremely good; it's nice to be able to pop over to the engineering department to discuss something high-level, then talk to the sales team about deal terms for a specific customer affected by an engineering issue.
However, the biggest problem I see with it (aside from being proprietary and not decentralized) is the overabundance of channels that an organization gets after using it for more than a year
Smearing pages in barbecue and eating them.
Bonus points if your barbecue brand is called Fahrenheit 451.
