    @stelepami Another important criteria is if they need it to be able to manage costs of a project in an integrated way with its schedule management.

    So, there's many, many solutions. The real question is what's your problem, more or less approximately 😃

    @stelepami
    There are many tools out there, dozens, I've only used a few.

    Your choice will most likely depend a bit if they want a web-based application, or they want a desktop GUI application, if they already have Microsoft Project files they need to import, if they are already trained using Microsoft Project or similar.
    All are pretty easy to get started with, and computer skills may be less relevant than project management skills and experience using gantt charts for scheduling.

    @hattiecat Someone who's on top of the latest news from the SBC scene is @LinuxSocist

    or take a look under the #linux and #sbc tags. I may have tooted about some.

    I think there's an updated list of current SBCs somewhere but I don't have the link handy. It used to be a shared spreadsheet with columns listing their feature set so you could filter records. This is from January 2018, there may be an updated list since then.

    I've basically concluded that small single-board computers make reasonable small server devices with 4 x RPi on my home network. But the memory and I/O of even the RPi 3 are too constrained for heavier processing loads so I'm looking for something with ARM or other RISC multicore CPU, 4GB memory, SATA ports and/or USB3. Any suggestions?

    Looks like I'm going to need to learn more about building Linux for ARM to get the most performance out of the SOPINE modules in #rainpsc.

    As much as I like the #pine64 hardware, and appreciate that it's open, they don't do a great job of supporting it on the software side 😂

    @Trev CoyIM uses GTK for its ui, and the code is pretty well designed separating UI from core logic, plus it's pretty straightforward to compile. I've done it myself.
    It's not unthinkable that one enterprising designer could give it the UX improvements that it's lacking.

    @Trev I'm curious what do you think CoyIM is lacking, other than fancy icons and such?

    @Trev Define "good"?

    Cross-platform XMPP client for desktop GUI that is not Electron-based, with better security standards than most clients integrated and enabled by default perhaps?

    For that particular kind of 'good', I'm quite fond of CoyIM myself.
    https://coy.im/

    It's not fancy like Adium but it's pretty good on desktop computers.
    I haven't seen any decent XMPP clients on mobile though.

    @david_ross Is your use case for multiparty meetings or for broadcasts?

    In the case of broadcasts you may want to take a look at OpenBroadcaster, the basic software is pretty good already, although you may possibly need to assemble it with other tools for your particular use.

    It's quite ironic that liberals and fascists fretting over the threat of a few thousand immigrants, obsessed exclusively with atavistic fantasies and identitarian struggles, will leave unattended and alone to grow relatively unimpeded the true agent of decomposition of hegemonic mainstream normality.

    @Shufei The way I see it, this ideology you mention, is only a continuation and a new iteration of neoliberalism and neocolonialism. They use computers to achieve their goals, yes, and that's just a tool; but the goal of making this neoliberal ideology final is the same idea that Fukuyama had.
    Neocons wrote their book. Now these other successors-in-interest are seeking their own final state of history.

    @Shufei It's true that Google's and Apple's ideologies are what's best known of current ideological Californian supremacy online. But I see those two as a phenomenon larger than California and its people. It's true that the elites are happy with this state of affairs and they want to preserve it. Fukuyama wrote "The End of History" on behalf of neocons who imposed neoliberalism globally in the 80s.

    @Shufei And that would leave out the original Californian tradition of Hewlett and Packard of delivering actual good engineering that helped people. And it would leave out all the Jewish authors and other artists who migrated westwards to find a place where their ideas could be expressed more freely. And it would leave out all the indigenous, Mexican and other Spanish-speaking people who were there since long before anyone spoke English in California.

    @Shufei Modern Silicon Valley ideology, it seems to me, is a fusion of things which aren't all Californian, although I get it, it'd be pedantic to call it Neo-Californian
    And techno-anarcho-capitalism would only describe some of the aynrandians, but it would leave out the question that little large fact that Silicon Valley benefits massively from the surveillance state and its collusion with government against the public interest.
