@macgirvin app devs blocking a known malicious url from being accessed is quite similar to a browser blocking unencrypted http traffic or a browser coming with a builtin ad blocker or not displaying the rendered punycode of certain languages in the url bar for fear of IDN homograph attacks. I agree its not an ideal way of going about the problem but its solution that is available right now to help address an invasion of bad actors into the network.
