solarpunk is what happens when we take all of this technology we have, and decide that maybe instead of chasing infinite exponential growth that's impossible we'll try to build a world with it that can coexist with nature and provide for everyone so they can do more of what they really want.
i'm 0/1 on expressing things well so take it with a grain of salt. i maybe missed some things and overemphasized others

@iona yes, that's the ideal endpoint of such a project, but this kind of mesh technology enables the bottom-up creation of a network (which can start with just two neighbors) and eventually grow the network to be big enough so you can plug into an internet exchange and completely bypass the ISPs!

With recent announcements that #BT is cutting thousands of jobs, and Virgin Media is dumping hundreds of workers, isn't it time to bring something as fundamental to our future as internet access out of the hands of these sociopathic corporations and back into our own hands?
Rural community projects like B4RN (https://b4rn.org.uk/) are great - but the majority of us live in urban areas where we can't dig fibre under a farmer's field.

@bhaugen @bernini @mayel At first this looked like decentralized lipstick on the central planning pig, but upon further reading it doesn't seem to be that at all. The system appears to be about improving the flow of information to help individual actors make better decisions rather than about trying to build a system which can itself make decisions.
This could be huge.

I've been working since about 1995 on an #omegaproject to develop the software required for a something that I see in the hashtags here might be called a #solidarityeconomy.
