although really getting into that starts to bring up those questions as well, frequently because of people's assumptions. it's a complicated, messy subject, that is frequently rendered even worse by the particular variety of asshole known as "free speech absolutists".

example: almost every time richard stallman talks anything outside of tech. quite possibly inside of tech as well, i'm sure.

@byttyrs i can relate to this. i used to be more defensive about that, mostly out of sheer terror (the public school system for me was *really* hard), but honestly, i'd rather people just see me for who i am, warts and all, than assuming i have abilities that i don't because of so-called "splinter skills" or whatever. or reading me in terms of functional labels rather than specific support needs, in context and in general, depending.

the idea of "socially inappropriate" as a concept, and how it leads to destructive, ableist, racist, sexist, classist, etc, etc, assumptions and problems? that's interesting and useful imo.

i'm not talking about things that cause actual emotional and/or material harm here btw

Most of y'all (including myself) aren't facilitators, conflict resolution specialists or mediators -- and being any of all of those things doesn't mean that you're necessarily good at your job, either. It *definitely* doesn't mean that trained professionals don't make mistakes, including large ones.

"Believe survivors" and "Believe everything people say, regardless of context, details and backstory" are not the same thing.

This happens again and again, and people fall for it. If the faulty logic and psychology of this isn't enough, this whole sort of thing being sockpuppeted by known abusers who run fascist training/staging grounds should be. This includes taking advantage of conflicts, because that seeds their discord all the better.
