Why this appears to be a shitty thing, at first glance:

hearing/seeing signs that not much has changed since the previous decade, not exactly encourgaging

at best, people respond in the same way as they do online: "oh yeah, that's a problem *faves/boosts*" then they do nothing to address the problem

at worst, they get defensive, if not actively aggressive when this gets pointed out, if the past is any indication

no thanks. you can go now, hypothetical-yet-actual-persons-who-shall-remain-nameless

If you're thinking "not my problem" or even "I'd love to, but I can't": rest assured that they will dump you out on your butt the moment things fall apart again, just like they did in 2000-01, and (globally) in 2008-09 because of the subprime crash.

If you *really* can't, I understand, but this is the reality. It's in your interest as well to strike.

This isn't the first time this has happened; the late 1990s in SF and Seattle, same thing.

If you feel bad about it, take it from someone who worked full time in tech back then:

They've done it before, they're doing it now, they'll do it again if people let them. Tech workers especially.

I'm not old enough to remember the height of the AIDS epidemic, but I remember Matthew Sheppard. I was the only one in my family who didn't shit on Ellen Degeneres when she came out on national TV. And I'm a bloody history nerd. So what I didn't witness, I took the time to learn about.

So much of our history has been erased, whitewashed, and sanitized.

Including the origin and history of Pride.
