@thaj I would have expected at least a 1% allowance for variance. Have you actually been tracking this or are you just making up percentages willy-nilly? My plot to take down Google isn't going to go well if this is the only data I have to go on.

What if Google stopped resolving searches in protest over #NetNeutrality? Or Apple shut down iTunes for a day? Where are all the super hip "socially concious" and "revolutionary" businesses now?

I just deleted all of my #patreon pledges. The new fees, in addition to all the currency conversion fees I already have to pay, mean that my pledges nearly cost me more than they benefit the recipient.
It's really annoying, but I guess when I bang on about open source solutions and people say it's just not a pressing issue, I can at least point them to this (among others).
And man, is it harder to bail when things go sour than it is to just never get involved in the first place.

It's been half a decade, and I still can't fathom what the programmers over at MIT were thinking when they moved their [excellent] Scratch programming sandbox from Smalltalk to Adobe AIR and Flash.
Develop a shining example of open source on top of a proprietary platform -> wait for Adobe to screw something up -> disaster.

@lostnbronx @thaj not sure if sarcastic http://www.d20pfsrd.com
I meant something more pregrammatically parseable.
dmg = pc.stats(klaatu,daggers,sneak)
Or something like that.

@lostnbronx @thaj I wouldn't mind an #API or #SQL for #RPG. I think it would be super useful.

@lostnbronx @thaj Could do, but in my experience the info in these RPG rules is way too dependent upon layout for pandoc to translate correctly.
YMMV

@lostnbronx @thaj I guess in a perfect world, I'd have both. Hardcover for when I don't have 60 kg in my backpack, PDFs for when I do, or for when I didn't think to bring the book.

@lostnbronx @thaj I prefer books, I'm just too much a physical minimalist.

@thaj @lostnbronx And don't get me started on render times, because, to their credit, Pathfinder PDFs are full of great art (some created with Krita, btw), which also means they are fairly slow to load.

@lostnbronx This is probably a good time to mention @BrentNewhall , a game designer who tends to release HIS work as EPUB rather than PDF....
http://brentnewhall.com/games/doku.phpAlthough I don't think he has a generic sci fi system.

@thaj @lostnbronx I'm mostly digital cuz PDFs are easier to tote around than 500 page hardcovers. I love the rules, but I admit the real reason I'm 80% Pathfinder and 20% 5e is because one offers PDF downloads and the other doesn't.

@lostnbronx @thaj Yeah it adds up. The PDF is cheaper, probably. It still adds up. Then again, I still use my D&D 2nd Ed Player's Handbook from 1989 today, so I can't argue with the longevity.

Tried out subbing to the "BSD Now" podcast. Interesting, but the two episodes I've listened to are about four times too long and filled with babbling. Within 5-10 minutes, I've tuned out. #BSDNow
I think I'm going to unsubscribe, which will leave me with two:
* Hacker Public Radio -- I've resubbed for the past couple of weeks and I have not burned out yet. Maybe I'm just a fan of @klaatu ;-) #HPR
* Smalltalk Reflections -- This one is on another unannounced hiatus. I should probably take a look around and see whether there are any other !Smalltalk podcasts in currently active production.
I haven't really looked for them yet, but I'd be interested in trying out podcasts that focus mostly on !TclTk or !DLang. -

i think the most important part of mastodon is not necessarily the tech side of decentralization, but the decentralization of community management. a monolith cannot handle small communities and how to manage their various issues. decentralized platforms can excel on that.

@scottnesbitt you're wrong. It is wonderful, and we should move our winter holiday to the winter.
