Mastodon is funding a small independent team of up to five proprietary software architects, engineers, and designers to develop a closed and centralized standard for social media. The goal is for Mastodon to ultimately be the owner of all social media.

@AndyTehNerd Cops are already allowed to kill people pretty indiscriminately. This is just leveling the playing field a little bit.

@phildini Silenced at the server level, so the federated timeline doesn't turn into a fire hose of tweets, but still giving us the option to follow individual Twitter accounts. From there, monitor and evaluate to see if more drastic action (such as a block) is necessary.
Also, what @Canageek said.

@bgcarlisle I saw the image the other day, but didn't realize it was a church that created it. I'm not Christian, or even especially religious, but I can get down with this kind of radical Christianity.

@bgcarlisle I bet you someone, somewhere, rationalizes this by saying we wouldn't want our ethics board members being influenced by dirty, filthy money. They also probably don't think of it as actual labour. Also it's gross, but I bet someone sleeps better at night with those rationalizations.

Obi Wan really never made good on that whole "strike me down and I'll become more powerful than you could possibly imagine" thing

@taweret Bloopers that made it into the final cut. Cool.
I will never watch this movie, but I am enjoying this more than your usual posting about movies and shows and I think it's because I can get a visceral sense of how awful this is just from your posting.
Often, negative reviews/liveblogs make me think, "I can't be *that* bad" and make me curious to actually watch the thing. But not this time. This time I can tell.

@taweret LOL
The reference to Snapchat filters isn't you having a laugh? That's actually a line in the movie?
That's a little TOO meta and I don't think this movie deserves to get away with it. You can't wink at the audience like that unless your movie is either a) a deliberately campy send-up of the genre or, b) actually a good movie.

@sikkdays The other reason is that I have no idea what I'm doing with this sort of thing, but I would be willing to learn if some of the systemic barriers you mention were removed.

@sikkdays Yeah, this is one of the reasons I would be hesitant to do a truly self-hosted solution (as in, hosted on a server that I physically own and keep in my house, rather than "self-hosted" in the sense of using Dreamhost or something). Maybe it'd work for a primarily personal email that I only use for connecting with people I know personally who could whitelist me. But then I'd still need another account for basic stuff like applying for jobs or setting up accounts.

@interneteh If anyone calls you on it, just say the "P" stands for "private" in this case.

@interneteh Less jokingly, I guess it is a pretty intimate thing and so "lewd" is at least covering it for people who don't want to see that type of thing.

Crossed the YouTube picket line multiple times today before I even knew it was a thing. So...oops, I guess.
I still don't fully know if it's solely a user boycott or if creators are striking by not uploading content. What little information I've found has been only moderately helpful.
